Why do people still like air coolers? Why do they still exist? why are companies not ditching them to focus on making the superior water coolers better?
>>
>>53975482

because closed loop water coolers are expensive and rarely outperform something even as cheap and cheerful as a hyper 212 evo to be worth it and closed loop coolers likely won't ever be able to topple the high end air coolers such as noctua nh-d14

not to mention the issues some cases face of finding where to mount the radiator
>>
Because watercooling is a meme unless you custom loop.
>>
>>53975482

Water coolers still use fans retard

Companies should rather invest in electronics that don't require cooling.
>>
>>53975523
however now you have an air cooler that sounds 239239x dB whenever you are playing medium demanding games like maxed counter strike lol

Watercoolers are an even bigger meme than double decker heatsink fan coolers.
>>
>>53975569
Obviously you never invested in a noctua.
>>
>>53975482
>superior water coolers

KEK
Water coolers are louder and less efficient than a good air cooler. The only thing water cooling is good for is publicly masturbating to your 200 MHz faster OC for an extra $200+.

Could we implement pic related related into cases? Or would there be static or other issues?

Implying water cooling doesn't use fans
>>
>>53975539
This.

CPU's don't put out much heat under normal use, even while gaming. You'd get much more of a benefit from water cooling your GPU, although closed loop coolers have only recently come out for graphics cards.
>>
>>53975569

noctua fans aren't pwm last I checked - they always run max speed (unless you put the sound reducing cables on them)

before my d14 I had a corsair h50, it wasn't any quieter and the constant pump noise was about as distinct as loud air cooler fans are

but I don't think you understand just how much thermal mass an air cooler like the d14 has, I could run my 2500k passively cooled if I wasn't doing anything under load and if the load did go up I had a good few minutes before I needed to start the fans up - try doing something like that on a clc without the pump running
>>
>>53975482
Because you can get a reliable and effective one for like twenty dollars
>>
>>53975482
Because they never fail.
>>
>>53975767
Most Noctua fans are PWM actually, and the ones that aren't include optional inline resistors in the box so you can cut down the speed.
>>
>>53975482
Same reasons watercooled light machine guns were phased out in favour air cooled ones.
>>
>>53975666
Wasn't there a few reviews showing a 212 bring as good as a single rad clc?
>>
>>53975482
Air coolers are cheaper and just work.

>a 911 with internal COMBUSTION engine is cooled with air
>strongest supercomputer is cooled with air
>hurr durr my gayman pc needa wata
When will this fad end
>>
>>53975631
You know thats just a fan with a fancy case around it
>>
I can only really see watercooling being useful for multiple graphics cards or any other space-constrained scenario. Using a closed loop cooler when you have space for a nice aircooler is just stupid, but it's probably how 90% of them are being used.
>>
>>53975631
I'm sure you could, but I doubt it would work very well. A computer case is relatively restrictive to airflow (particularly with dust filters), and I'd bet money those Dyson fans have terrible static pressure ratings.

there's no point, it takes up more space than a regular fan

not since 1998, also irrelevant

runs at low clock speeds and is extremely fucking loud

doesn't need it, but it's cooler and quieter and smaller so why not

fucking autist
>>
>>53975482
What if it leaks? What about the noise levels? Why do I need an expensive liquid cooler when I can buy an air cooler for a lower price for the same results.
>>
ITT: Retards who think liquid coolers don't need fans just like air coolers to keep cool.

Either way it will be noisy, you'll just get better performance with the liquid coolers.

what about the noise liquid coolers make when it is pumping the liquid? also I never have that problem because i invest on a good thermal paste and cpu.

A half-decent pump barely makes any noise, the primary source of noise in a water cooling system is still the fans.

Because not everyone buys unlocked processors, and even the ones who do don't end up making use of them.

You don't need water unless you're overclocking.

TAKES UP MORE SPACE THAN A REGULAR FAN
There is no implementation where that kind of fan would ever be better than a regular exposed-blade fan. Those fans are for hipsters who don't want to see spinning blades. There's no advantage, it uses more space because you NEED that tower at the bottom. How do you even think it works? Fuck off retard
>>
I got my Hyper 212 EVO for about 30 bucks, and my desktop doesn't overheat and runs really silently. No need to upgrade.

Why would I put water in my computer?

Why does a low humming noise trigger some faggots so much?
>>
>>53977093
Same. I have a 4690k at 4.5ghz with a hyper 212 and it generally doesn't go over 50°c when just browsing the net or stuff that doesn't tax the cpu. With games it can go upto 60°c but I don't even mind that 2bh. I have the fan profile set to very quiet so I can improve temps if I wanted to but I'd rather have a more quiet system. My case fans are actually louder than my cpu cooler.
>>
I bought a H100i for $60 bucks just now I hope it doesn't has pump troubles or anything, gonna use it on a 4690K I'm gonna get next week.
>>
>>53975482
Because they work well, are quieter than most closed loop coolers, and have less potential failure points.

I seriously couldn't be happier with my D-15.
>>
Why not just invest in sound cancelling headphones?

There are occasionally people who don't live alone.

Sound-cancelling headphones are also shit.
>>
>>53977954
They are perfect for blocking fan noise.
>>
water cooling. too much trouble. too much effort. too much money. not really worth it imo. they dont do much better if they even do better. i'll pass
>>
>>53977392
I've read from multiple posts that people with the 4790k barely go above 40 when browsing the net with the 212. You sure you installed it correctly?
>>
>>53977392
Oh shit never mind, I didn't read your whole post, apologies.
>>
Anyone ever put the gpu and cpu in the same loop? I'm thinking about it with a 360 rad.
>>
>>53977627
I don't want to wear headphones the entire time I'm on the computer
>>
>>53975631
I could see this being useful for an ultra-quiet PC for music recording or something, because you could insulate the fuck out of the area around the fan itself instead of having it spinning right at the front/back of the case.

Other than that I don't see much point, though.

Now here's a crazy idea, I wonder if we could aircool a PC with ion thrusters, maybe running through some kind of venturi system that draws in cool air instead of blowing on the heatsinks directly, and have no moving fan parts at all.
