What is the greatest keyboard of all time and why is it the IBM Model M?
>>
its not about the keyboard its about the user

It's not the Model M because the fucking thing has 3KRO

I love how it feels to type on the thing, but the matrix disqualifies it from most gaming.

>>53959556
You care about gaming? Fuck outta here.

Buckling springs make it worth it.

the public toilet of keyboards
>>
seriously, the model m js the best keyboard for typing.

However it only has a 3 key rollover so for WASD vidya where you need to press w,d, spacebar and sometimes crouch all at the same time, youre going to be in a world of pain.
>>
>>53962549
Seriously? Can it be modded to support it?
>>
>>53959421
I've owned several Model M's and I prefer my AT 101 W.

The Model F is better desu senpai.
>>
Because you can't hear the opinions of salty faggots on the internet who will never use the god-tier keyboard over the sound of glorious buckling springs.
>>
>>53962915
Muh PS/2 compatibility. What kind of adapter do you have? I'm considering using an arduino as an adapter for arbitrary (old) keyboards.

This and the IBM SK-8820. I own both of these and they're both great for being rubberdome keyboards

I got a Spacesaver M a few months ago, definitely the best keyboard I've ever had

>>53960535
I'd take an Apple Keyboard over reds, blacks, blues, or browns

HHKB has the best rubberdomes; japanesse rubber folded over 1000 times

The old thinkpad disign is way better
>>
>>53959421
It's the model F and it's because of the legendary capacitive switches.

It's the space cadet keyboard and it's because of the trillion bucky bits and the hall effect switches.

It's the model M15 and it's because of the awesome split ergonomic design that lets you keep your hands wherever you like while you type.

Why the fuck is unicomp still not making these, jezus fucking christ.
>>
>>53963784

I have a Teensy 2.0 microcontroller with the "Soarer's Converter" firmware loaded on it. Haven't had any problems since then.
>>
>>53962042
I used one of those and it had a metal ball.
It was okay, the ball was a pleasure to use though.
>>
>>53959421
IBM model F. Unlike the model M, which has plastic rivets and a membrane thing to detect keystrokes, the model F used metal rivets and a circuit board to detect the keystrokes. I think it also has NKRO. The only downsides are that they cost $400 these days and they're extremely loud.

>>53959556
It's 2KRO. If you hold capslock and S, it won't detect A. That said, I've never had a problem with it while playing video games.
>>
>>53965303
God fucking damn I would love an industrial SSK.
>>
Is there anything worse than Model M hipsters?

>every old shit thread is full of shitters blogging about their "ORIGINAL 1987 silver label IBM Model M" attached to their lame gaming shitbox like they're some kind of special snowflake
>have to mention their model M at every opportunity in a vain attempt to get up(You)s and attention
>no respect or interest in actual computing history, have probably never even seen let alone heard of a PS/2 or AT, are just paying out the ass for them to look hip on the internet or some placebo bullshit
>>
>>53970455
Mine was $3.
>>
>>53959421
Any old keyboard is more comfortable then the slim pieces of plastic and metal apple calls a "keyboard". Which cost 94.99 in my area btw.
>>
>>53970455
>paying out the ass for them to look hip on the internet or some placebo bullshit
The fuck are you talking about? IBM Model Ms cost $40 (or $60-80 if you want a grey label) on eBay. I rarely see anyone with anything other than a blue label. Considerably cheaper than a modern mechanical keyboard.
>>
>>53959775
this guys doesnt know keyboards
how cute
>>
>>53970455
Mine was form 1983, was free (my grandfather owns it), and has a fucking DIM5 connector.
Also i don't care about (You)s
>>
>>53959421
Its actually the model F, model m has 2KRO.
Model F has NKRO, much higher quality switches, and clickety clacks than you could ever dream of.
>>
>>53973104
I can confirm, but it has no F11 and F12
>>
>>53962569
Not really. You'd need to rewire the entire thing, change the controller, put diodes over every switch... essentially you would be building an entirely new keyboard in a model M case.

At that point you'd be better off getting that new Model F remake.
>>
Does anyone have the picture that explains why the model m isthe best keyboard? It has a picture of the model m, with red writing underneath it, I believe the words "shitty, gaming and meme" are used
>>
>>53973178
There are lots of different model F keyboards. Several have F1-F24.
