The idea that the government should be able to snoop through your emails because you personally have nothing to hide is a red herring. The real argument is: do you want to live in a world where the government knows everything about everyone? Even the most law-abiding citizen can see a need for journalists, activists, whistle-blowers, etc to keep things private from the government.
Legally and historically, it seems that the prohibition against general warrants would explicitly rule out thsse sort of surveillance techniques. But we live in a world where storing trillions of private communications isn't "collection" and a query of that data isn't a "search."
