I was trying to install w7 on a Skylake, but the messes it became made me forcefully install w10. I don't know what to expect, but im not happy now. After it i will install some other distro to dual boot, i hope it works.

I have never tried windows 10 myself. But I remember that win 7 was quite fine until windows 10 was released. Then my win 7 started having updates 3 times a day, and when it wasn't updating it was installing and update or worst downloading it.
I use to have win 7 to play muh videogamez. But it commited suicide or something. The thing is that one day, there was an error on the update. And when I booted everything was fucked up.

And no, it's not stuck when it checks for updates.
I had been using Win 7 for 6 years and I didn't have any problems with it, not one.
Then Win 10 came and it began updating every day with 10+ updates, so i disabled that shit.
Then win 10 popped up that it wanted me to upgrade, so i just bit the bullet and hey, it's actually quite nice.
After you disable +40 useless apps, set yourself as a +18 faggot with a Microsoft account and download Re.loader to make it so it looks legit; it's actually a pretty light OS.
Just try it out. You can literally reinstall your older OS without any problem, even if you don't know how to use Google.
Still feels weird though. Like im using a Windows Phone...

had the same problems as you OP I had to find a patch from MS's site just to get windows update to work. After lagging in CS GO I gave up and installed Windows 10 Enterprise edition. Windows 7 is depreciated.

actually i tried installing w10 on a 5 year old laptop, which was perfectly usable under windows 7 and, althougt it being undeniably (automatic driver installation above all) it performed way worse and used a lot of cpu cycles in idle. Luckily I still have the digital river windows 7 isos that have been taken down by now, sp1 update. Now i just install those ones and the first thing i do is disabling windows update (which is now fucked beyond redemption, there are too much updates, it leask memory on svrchost and microsoft doesn't care anymore) on services.msc (if you aren't retarded you wont need an antivirus either). touchpa/audio/ethernet default drivers always work, the only assle is maybe some wifi dongle and downloading your gpu drivers
