why?
just why?

What's wrong with TeX though?
Would've loved to write my bachelors thesis in TeX but couldn't get the required format quite right and was pressed for time.

There you go, it's a shitty timesink program.

I had a teacher who recommended it to me.

I do this too.

Yeah keep writing your white privilege and reparations essays in Word you liberal arts faggot.

I used to do my circuits homework in latex freshman year, circuit diagrams and all.

How do you create circuit diagrams in LaTeX?

Why oh why would you do this?

not that anon, but try entering a formula in Word

CircuiTikz
It has options for american vs european style components if you swing that way.

>>53934187
Because I wanted to learn LaTeX and it was a good opportunity to do so.

Just use LyX, it's pretty comfy.

Better learn to use a tool that you will probably use for your whore career if it's on the STEM field.

It's easy enough. I have to do it sometimes in write ups.

I'm a mathematician so most of what I do is tests done by hand. At my uni, we don't get given homework.

Seems a little absurd at third level to be given homework (and to do it in fucking latex). But maybe that's just within my field.
>>
>>53933058
If there's any math involved, the professor certainly doesn't want to read ugly equations done in Word

Either way, not knowing LaTeX while studying anything technical is pretty silly.
>>
>>53934153

It's beautiful.
>>
>>53933048
I'm a physics grad student so I'm used to that since forever. Once you know your shit, it's fucking great. Admittedly though, if you want it to look fancy it can be quite a time sink. Then again, you put a header together and most of the work is done.

good thing I've been writing shit in LaTeX for like 2.5 years now.

I've gotten really good at it & my profs tell me that they are "impressed with the quality of my work"
>>
>>53935899
Also I can't believe idiots on /g/ tell you to learn scheme and read SICP but they call latex a waste of time

kek
>>
>>53933789
Sounds like you're trying to do it in Word. Talk about fighting the software to get the formatting you want
>>
>>53933048
Learn the fucking syntax faggot
>>
>>53936122
It really is not hard at all to create a word-quality document in latex

For a bunch of pseudo-programmers/developers you guys sure hate learning new syntax
>>
What's the big deal with computer modern, anyway?
>>
>>53936324
It looks good and its use is historically a sign of a high quality document

>>
Is this really a big deal?
I mean giving people the tex files is a bit weird, but if they want you to use it, then I guess it makes sense.

I have encountered some people couldn't figure out how to get a spellchecker in a text editor, but if you have a decent setup, you can write a paper just as fast if not faster in latex.

Sure tikz might be a timesink if you are pressed for time, but you can just generate the graphics in inkscape or something if you want the vector graphics or graphs can be plotted in R or matlab or whatever you use to process the data.
