well the one I drilled was made in 86, I drilled it freehand on a flat surface and it came out pretty nice and with no cracks
I gotta say though, I have quite some drilling experience and I did it in stages, not drilling right away
first I took a chisel and removed old plastic rivets flush with the plate
then I took soldering iron and made little indents where drill would go
then I drilled it with drill 0.2 mm thinner than the target one
then with the target bit
then cleaned it with chisel again
once you vacuum it or clean it whatever manner you find fitting you can start putting in the screws, which is a pain in the ass because they come in between barrels where you can't really hold them with your fingers so so forceps and such are your friend
if you can't drill that well nobody will force you to drill it all in one day, take it slow and make good holes

Got a memeforce early this afternoon, tried to desolder some switches and ended up ripping off three pads in the process, effectively bricking parts of the switch matrix. After various attempts at fixing this shit I gave up and decided that I'd just handwire it with a teensy and put it in the case.
What perplexes me is how easily this thing got fucked. I've put my Ducky Shine 4 PCB through worse and it still works perfectly fine.
So now I'll be making a memeforce with gateron clears (reds and blacks for certain keys) that's handwired and fully programmable with a teensy.
Was anyway about time that I'd get familiar with the TMK firmware.

I think there's various variants of it. Some have backlighting and dip-switches on the back, some come with kalih and some with outemu (and there's a version with cherries available).
The one I got was with outemu blues. They sound nice, but the tactile bump is far too weak for my taste. Outemu should make greens.

And yeah, I feel like the solder with this thing was quite different from what I've dealt with before. I had to set my pump to 400 degrees or so to even melt the stuff properly.
On the note of which, I made the experience burning yourself with a 350 degree hot piece of metal. Don't hold your soldering iron with your mouth while fumbling right in front of it with your hands. Put it on the table or wherever it won't get in your way.

My soldering station is by far not as fancy as it looks. The iron's good but I'm missing smaller bits since I only have a single one. The desoldering pump is borrowed from a friend, I'll be returning it sometime soon once I've done something for another friend. Though I do plan on getting another one sometime later.

I know razer has a bad rep, but for a first time mechanical keyboard, would there be anything too wrong with getting this for £70? The big problems for me
(other have reported this as well) the rubber feet on the bottom are not the same height so it's uneven

The switches (kalih) are bad at gripping the plate. If I try to "move" them there's some millimeter of sway. I have actually replaced the switches in my with Gaterons and they don't have the same sway.
You should try a Magicforce 68 from Amazon uk it's like £40 and has better switches (Outemu)

I have no idea what they were thinking.
Part of me is tempted to hunt down some new PBT keycaps for it, but I can't justify getting keycaps for a board that I probably won't use as my daily driver, given what I assume is its 2KRO.
So I've tried MX Blues at the store before, but the only boards I've owned have been a RealForce 87UB and a CM Quickfire Rapid with Browns. Holy shit, clicky keys are LOUD. Not that it bothers me, but it caught me off guard just how much more vocal it was compared to my other boards.
Being my first time using a board with switches this heavy, I have to say, the 70g actuation on this feels just fine. Now my 55g Topre feels like a light-weight mush in comparison. Life is pain.

Is the memeforce PCB double-sided? That would explain the difference from dessoldering old boards, or modern non-backlit boards. Single sided pcbs are way easier to dessolder.

It obviusly does. Double sided PCBs have pads on both sides as well in the middle. If any solder remain, you will fuck everything when pulling the switch.

Most of us are pretty anal about cleanliness around our keyboards. No eating, especially snacks, unless you use chopsticks.
I also use a little paint brush to clean my keyboard every couple days, and every 10-12 months I take the caps off and do a more thorough cleaning.
And obviously if your caps are PBT, that can add to the resistance to wear.

jesus was the new one filthy underneath, I swear I cleaned a fistful of lint and other garbage but beyond that it's in pristine condition, no spots or snagged springs, nothing.
Converted it from ISO to ANSI and I ended up with no keycaps for the \| keys so I took the umlaut keys the new one came with and put those on instead so I have two dumb smileys there, a :O one and U umlaut one
I think it's quite cute actually

I can't speak for everyone but I'd say you're wrong. It's really not all that hard to keep your keyboard clean so long as you're not a complete slob. Some people don't eat at their computer, but once again so long as you're not a child you should be able to eat cleanly. Most people here seem to clean their keyboard(s) often enough to wipe out all the nasty shit. Personally I usually hit it with canned air once a day and then clean it out at the end of the month so it doesn't get too disgusting.

I remember hearing that the K60/65 werent 100 percent mechanical. Had rubber domes for arrow keys and modifiers. So watch out for that. Another basic TKL would be a Coolermaster Quickfire Rapid.
