Honestly baremetal would be the most secure. Tails attempts to write over used ram when ejected but really can't do that effectively if in a VM.

Why would you run tails in a VM? Doing that has no advantage over using Tor browser. Any spyware on your host OS can monitor literally everything you're doing in the VM. Put Tails on a usb drive and live boot it. It's easy, their website has retard-proof instructions.
