>For years, Google has had tools to test the lag in Android and Chrome OS devices, letting it know when bad hardware or sloppy software is causing delays in touch input or voice commands. Wish you could check that lag yourself? As of now, you can: Google has posted the source code for WALT, its latency timer. While you'll need to build some Arduino-based hardware to perform the tests, Google promises that the whole thing will cost you less than $50. You won't need to go all-out and recreate the company's TouchBot, then. True, this will mostly be useful to developers who need to check their code, but it could come in handy if you've ever wanted to prove that a phone was unacceptably sluggish.

Let me spare you the trouble. If you're running android, yeah it lags.

Is there an FPS counter that graphs FPS over time for Android?

Good job faggots. You deserve a raise on your shitty engineering degrees for being able to find out if android laggs or not.

no but it's around 1fps

I think there is. Check out dev menu.

My old phone used to lag like hell, but it was over 3 years old.
Haven't experienced lag on my new Nexus 5X.

then why can I tell the difference between 30 and 60fps?

It's a meme you dip.

Silky smooth and 30FPS works, the perception of "lag" is when the frames drop. Having constant 30 FPS is smoother than having 60-55 drops.
>>
>>53905073
This pretty much. Although it's still hard to tell why, sure the hardware isn't on par with Apple but even 5s with clearly worse spec runs smoother. Is Java really that bad?

Current Lagdroid flagships are faster than A7/A8 overall, and got comparable NAND speeds, so it's not down to hardware.

This is good, a good smooth GUI will help improve the Android OS, lets face it, some parts still stutter.

Stop blaming Android for your shitty phone. If it lags it's your poor device choice not the OS.

i run my phone with all animations off, and it feels like it lags horribly. animations are used to cover up lag that's all.
>>
>>53905262
>>53906165

Android does not use a JVM. Since Lollipop, applications are compiled to native code at install time. So when you double tap on an .apk in your file browser (or install it via F-Droid or the Play Store) and it takes a little bit of time to actually install, what it's doing is it's compiling the bytecode to native code. When you start up the application, you're not starting a JVM. Instead, you're basically just running a native process from the get-go,

yup. I've set animations at a slightly higher speed rather than turning them off.

iOS does the same thing too. Animations are not extremely fast. When an app starts is has a splash screen that looks like the shell of the app. It all makes it look smoother and faster, even if it's the same delay.

The biggest issue with lag on any phone is when you get the muscle memory for app. Then your fingers are hovering, waiting for something to happen. Really fucks with you.

>.net sandboxed virtual machine

.NET isn't a VM and it certainly isn't sandboxed

>2016
>expecting /g/ to understand technology
>>
>>53911106

>.NET isn't a VM
.NET is a framework that combines the Common Language Runtime (CLR) and the Framework Class Library (FCL). The CLR IS a virtual machine, just like the JVM. It translates Common Intermediary Language (CIL), previously known as Microsoft Intermediary language (MSIL, pronounced "missile") into native code at runtime.

And it can be quite sandboxed with AppDomains.

You seem to be stuck in 2011 with a cheap samshit.
I'm here to inform you that today is 2016 and current version of Android is 6.0 that doesn't lag even on cheap dual-core Snapdragon 200 with 512MB RAM - that's what I have in my spare ZTE W811 that uses ported CM13 build.

>stuck on cheap china
>only has 4

god damn it
still doesn't lag though.
>>
>>53911062
There is a difference between an animation that covers up loading times and a lag that forces animations to slow down and also forces loading times to be even longer ;)

Good point.
I'm tempted to buy the 4GB Zenfone 2 and then stick the 720p screen from the lower model in it
