Is it still necessary to backup my os and programs on my hard drive in case the ssd breaks down or will it last enough?

SSDs suffer from weird ass controller failures. their failure rate is higher than some HDDs. HDDs are more mature tech after all. Only buy Intel for stability.

No, after you reach the write limit on a SSD you can still read the data.
