I have never had a smartphone, I still use a dumb phone.
Am I missing on anything? Should I move to a smart phone?
>>

If you ever find yourself wishing that you had the capability to use a computer whilst out of your home, you should get one. If not, fuck it
>>
You're not missing anything.
>>
"I need X feature that only smartphones have in my daily life"
"gee I'd better get a smartphone"
>>
Yes they're amazing why wouldn't you want one?
>>
>>53856194
Won't a laptop be better for that?

>>53856234
I still haven't found a feature i want.
>>
You can wack it to porn in public restrooms.

NSA + very dangerous to carry such a thing around, you might lose it or break it or it could get stolen resulting in financial lost + makes somewhat addicted or at least dependent not good for the mind.

I bought a dumbphone after my iphone 5s broke. The only thing i miss are some apps like myfitnesspal, and the ability to check facts in 5 seconds. Also that i cant ssh home
>>
>>53856301
NSA have got dumbphones tracked tho anyway

you think the old shit didn't have glaring security issues as well?

>Won't a laptop be better for that?
If you enjoy lugging a laptop around everywhere, sure.
Not him, but I thought smartphones were useless until I got one. Having the ability to google anything I want whenever and wherever I am is fucking great. Not to mention the countless useful/entertaining apps at my disposal.
Smartphones aren't even expensive anymore. You can grab an older model phone for like $100 off Ebay.

I think a phone is more tempting to steal than a laptop. Especially if you happen to carry a "dinosaur" like pic related. Besides, a laptop is more difficult to forget than a phone. You'll almost immediately notice that something feels off.

>>53856294
Laptops have bigger screens.

>>53856483
Laptops have the same capability except the practicality factor - It is much easier to whip out your phone on the subway and play Candy Crush (or whatever normies play these days) than it is to pull out a subnotebook and jam away at Battlefront 2. Speaking from experience it is doable, but just highly impractical.

That $100 I'd spend on a smartphone is $100 I could use for literally anything else. You also fail to mention phone bills.
>>
>>53856111

Do you "need" a smartphone?
No.

Could you use and enjoy owning one?
Probably.

I travel a lot and having a tiny computer is useful for getting information quick. I also use LINE and WeChat a lot to keep in contact with friends/customers.

You could do this with a laptop but why would I pull it out everytime I wanted to do a small task like this?

I know that this is 4chan and we tend to have a lot of students and NEETs, but I don't know how anybody with a real job can go without a smartphone these days. Employers and clients expect constant contact, and having quick and easy access to Google, without the need to find Wi-Fi, is indispensable. Even outside work I use mine constantly, just for basic stuff like finding a place to grab lunch or finding the phone number of a store so I can see if they have the thing I need in stock, looking up product reviews before buying from a brick & mortar, etc.

In my job, I 100% need a smartphone because I run a company Instagram account, but that's a special case.
>>
>>53856111
What you need is a bananaphone. Everything else is rubbish.
>>
What's a nice entry level smartphone? Especially when you hate Android fragmentation, lack of manufacturer updates and shitty custom UIs manufacturers give them
>>
>>53856111
The only thing you may be really missing are wikipedia/google searches on the go, and maybe messengers like whatsapp or telegram if your friends use them.
Anything else is not essential.

I mean, sure, it's nice to browse 4chan in bed or on the move some times, same with youtube, but I can easily live without it.
Maps are also on some dumbphones.

You're not missing a lot.

Last year's iPhone, probably.

Maybe one of the Nexus series or something? Somebody who knows Android phones better than I do will have to answer that one, I'm a flagship guy so I haven't really looked at the other end of the market.
>>
>>53856111
It's basically a pocketable computer that can also make and take calls.
>>
>>53856111
Depends what you do, I'm at university, helpful in lectures to google shit, alarm clock, message and what'sapp a shitload of people, I was really not convinced the change would be significant but I've found it awfully useful.

I'm a samsung whore cause making android apps is easier than selling your first born to Jobs' reverent spirit, in order to aquire an apple developer license. So my opinion probably means nout here.
>>
>>53856111
>Am I missing on anything?
Not if you're using a laptop/netbook/tablet for anything that you'd be using a smartphone for. I replaced my smartphone with an old Asus EEE and it not only runs significantly better despite having worse hardware, but shitposting and general internet browsing is significantly more enjoyable on it while shitposting or trying to follow more than one thread on my smartphone felt like a chore.
>>
>>53856111
Shitposting from bed.
It's glorious.
>>
>>53859715
Maps are the only thing I miss about having a smart phone. But even then, looking up locations at home before I leave is not a big deal.
>>
>>53856111
At first you're going to be like "nice, loving the convenience" with sending all kind of text and attachments to contacts, checking weather, checking whatever.

After a while it's just annoyances of notifications about retards sending emotes. The only half acceptable reason to use it over a dumbphone is if you need to deal with mails on the go for work.
>>
>>53858156
You're right, your job is a special case. Everything else is totally unnecessary.
>>
I downgraded to a rugged dumb phone when my Nexus 5 died. I appreciate the fact that I can completely submerge the damn thing and it'll still work underwater, which is important for me because I do a lot of hiking and extended camping.

But really, I like the fact that I'm less connected. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook notifications every five minutes (Not that I use social networking anyway). The battery lasts forever because of it.
