Does anyone else not trust the tap and go or NFC chip design in debit cards today? I keep getting asked if I have, and sent letters from my bank to get it, but literally anyone that gets my card (small chance I realize but still) could use my card to make as many small purchases <$50 as they want until I cancel it.

I wish we would get rid of them. They fucking suck. They take fucking forever and I've had mine fail somehow at least three times now, which never happened with the magstrip.
>>
Isn't that shit a huge security risk?
>>
>>53852398
A big problem is that the NFC chip is never deactivated so it is possible to grab the information the same way that RFID devices can be skimmed. Unless you want to carry around a faraday cage around it, they aren't really worth it in my opinion.
>>
>>53852440
NFC chips are, but a properly done chip&pin system is relatively secure since they use the token system where a skim only results in one fraudulent transaction instead of a series of them.

>>53852488
Every country in the developed world is plagued by digital espionage. It just so happens that the US was exposed to the public.
>>
>>53852305
the worst part is that american chip'd credit cards STILL aren't secured with a pin, you just sign your name
>>
>>53852541
Not just the US, there was a lot of shit about the GCHQ in the snowden leaks. Also some mention of the CSE and other five eyes shit.

Basically Anglos.
>>
>NFC
>actually useful technology

"Oh boy my phone has NFC, now I don't have to carry a wallet anywhere!!" - fucking nobody, ever

Dear Retard,

>>
>>53852436

You're an idiot and you should ban yourself from this board until you educate yourself and become less retarded.
>>
>>53852646
Its a stupid statement. No shit chip isn't the same as nfc. You're both complete idiots, but I guess that's to be expected from fat ameritards.
>>
>>53852619
Think of your cell phone's SIM card, that's the same technology in the card chips.
NFC is touchless "tap-to-pay"
>>53852656
True statement, actually. Also, you are an idiot.
>>
I think the ppoint OP is making here is that you're SO far behind in america that the rest of the world is already using new technology.

You still write cheques for restaurants for christ's sake
>>
>>53852671
>Think of your cell phone's SIM card, that's the same technology in the card chips.
>NFC is touchless "tap-to-pay"

No fucking shit you gigantic moron. Nobody is claiming they're similar or anything.

Is that what an idiot like you does? Just make up arguments in your head? Shoot yourself before you spread your retard genes, shit for brains.
>>
>>53852683
damn son im hurt
>>
>>53852681
First of all, no one writes checks under the age of 40 unless it is business related. Second, OP says chip but then mentions NFC which has been around in the US for an entire expiration cycle.
>>
>>53852681
Restaurants don't usually take cheques, even in 'murica.
>>
>>53852708
You are aware he's talking about nfc debit cards and not nfc phone payments, right?
>>
>>53852702
As an idiot like you should be.
>>
>>53852727
Yes. I was issued a debit card with NFC payment that has already been expired. Good job just pointing out how uninformed people are including yourself.
>>
>>53852743
If you have those then why don't you have chip cards?
>>
You know we just pay with our phones now, right?
>>
>>53852750
We do...
>>
>>53852743
>Good job just pointing out how uninformed people are including yourself.
>being proud that you're an amerifat knowing amerifat stuff

kek, as if anyone in a non-shithole cares about knowing your shit
>>
>>53852541
It also happens that the US digital espionage budget exceeds that of the rest of the world combined.
It also happens that lack of privacy laws in the US enables digital espionage by private sector / corporations as well.

But yeah, we're all fucking screwed. I for one am still using cash wherever possible while it's still fucking legal.
>>
>>53852799
>proud of being ignorant about a topic that you are posting on
If you didn't care about knowing "my shit" then why are you even here? To show how much of an idiot you are?
>>
>>53852305
We have far more infrastructure to update then most other countries since we're not all forced to live on top of each other. Anyway, tap and pay is a thing with certain companies, I just don't think it was standardized thus it wasn't widely used.

>>53852367
Is this meant to be ironic? SMS doesn't require figuring out what service to contact someone on and it's built into the phone. Enjoy being forced to use Whatsapp.
>>
>>53852727
phone payment is the better model though cause it's rfid that's not always on waiting to be cloned by any passing shady techie
>>
>>53852649
Go fuck yourself, I've never had my info stolen with a magstrip either and they weren't colossal wastes of my time every time I go shopping. AND theres still no PIN associated with it, it could fall out of my wallet and would be no more secure than an old card.
>>
>>53852398
>>53852443
I take it you guys haven't used NFC before? You have to nearly touch it to the reader, it can't even read through your hand, or your pants for that matter. If someone has physical possession of your card, it's not safe anyway. Someone could just swipe your magstripe card with one of those iPhone point of sale card swiper things.

>NSA and GCHQ butthurt about not being able to spy on their own citizens
>So they spy on each other's citizens and trade data
Good work, team. I love seeing countries put their heads together to take on difficult problems.
>>
canadian here.

probably because a lot of americans would assume that if their credit cards got changed it was obama and his nigger-jew-kikes trying to find new ways to spy on them to make sure their chemtrail sickness is going swimmingly and to ensure their autism transmitted successfully from the vaccines.

Americans are trash. thats why.
>>
>>53852305
Pretty sure we were getting NFC cards before we got the chip

>>53855285
2-3 times longer? Have you ever actually used one? Because thats bullshit. Also, I don't even take mine out of my wallet to scan it, and that's probably the most time consuming part of the mag stripe method.

You could go around tapping peoples asses with a reader, which can more or less be common in subway stations or other crowded areas (e.g: New York)

>>53852398
US banks and credit card companies are actually using NFC less, not more. This is a result of reasons above, and the increased cost of putting both NFC and the chip into one card. Most uses of NFC are in prepaid transit cards for public transportation.
>>
>>53852418
We all know this isn't true, it's even a stereotype that you have shit internet.

Also it's ALWAYS on a fucking data cap.
>>
>all this mad americans ITT

Enjoy your stolen money, credit card fraud, no security and the third world tier card readers, while I have a secure chip card and I pay with a NFC card in 3 seconds everywhere I go.

>enter PIN
>PLEASE WAIT - DO NOT REMOVE CARD
>5 seconds later: Remove card, terminal starts beeping at you for not knowing the EXACT moment it's going to be done.

Thanks for nothing, Europe, in foisting your shitty chip cards on us.

Not our fault you have shit terminals. Here it takes literally five seconds summed up to read and return the card to the customer. It even makes a sound so you know when you must remove it in case your are retarded.
