Some days ago my friend lost his iPhone, the next day he tried to block it using iCloud "Find My iPhone", but to his surprise the lost iPhone wasn't listed on his devices.
So I was wondering, how could the person that found the iPhone (it was a 6S) access it and unlink the iCloud account without the password?
I'm no expert but i used to think that iPhones were very safe in that regard.

I wish someone would actually answer this question because this same thing happened to me a few years ago when my iPhone 5 got stolen.
I've always just assumed that the motherfucker ripped out the SIM card, effectively killing the phone's internet access. I'm not sure though.

Most common cause is just not having FMiP turned on. Just signing into the iCloud isn't enough.

-his iphone ran outta power
-he didn't have location services turned on for 'find my iphone'
-he didn't have wifi enabled on his phone
-the phone was in a spot with no wifi or cell signal
-your friend literally never enabled it on his phone
-your friend waited too long to check for his lost phone
-the person reset the phone and is now locked out with a useless phone to everyone
The person would not have unlinked the phone or account, the above reasons are the only ones that probably happened. So everyone loses, thief can't use or sell phone, friend can't get it back.
