I want to buy one really bad. I listen to a lot of podcasts, having a dedicated device to serve that purpose means I can have whatever phone comes to my hand not necessarily a smartphone either. It has a camera sensor that btfo of most phones out there, if you go look at camera samples the its indistinguishable from iphone 6 pictures. Also battery, your battery will last a lot longer because you're not using it as a radio modem. It's so thin that you can just put it on your pocket and forget.

I leave my phone in my locker at the gym so I got the touch to use when I'm working out.
Those arm sleeve things look dumb, don't like phone bouncing around in my pocket, and don't want to get sweat in the phone. I go caseless so it also seems like a bad idea to rest it on the treadmill or next to the bench.
Got a refurbished touch and it's a good solution to my gym autism.

iPod Touches were definitely more popular a few years ago, when the iPhone was still locked to AT&T and many people didn't want the "phone" part of it.
