>macbook air
just get a 2008 netbook and you will still have money left over for the fashion accessory you want
No you want the plain macbook. The air has tons of features you'll never use.

MacBook Air is actually a really cost effective laptop.
Great hardware with huge battery life in a nice shell.
If you compare it to other ultraportable laptops with similar specifications, it usually comes out on top.
Keep in mind that installing Windows reduces battery life slightly, though i have heard that Windows 10 runs smoother than OSX on the low tier models.
Sure, it's not as cheap as some ultralight laptops, but you get better build quality than most of them. The only real competitors are things like the Asus Zenbook and Lenovo X250, and unless you want the features on those particular models, I would prefer the Air.

Base model Macbook 13" is also a good value, although I don't know what you mean by "tons of features'

No, Apple keyboards are terrible. My girlfriend has a 2015mbp, when she tried typing on my Thinkpad E420, she literally said "Oh my god this keyboard feels amazing!"
