Debian is the superior choice. Everyone says Ubuntu is good for beginners, but Debian was the first distro I used and am glad. There's a slight learning curve I guess, but nothing you can't figure out online

I tried installing Debian. It's currently defaulting to some goofy new filesystem. I repaved with Mint because it wasn't worth the trouble.
I just installed Debian and I have to say everything so far is ezpz. Did a net install which even set up xfde for me so I had a lean desktop from the get go. Package manager is pretty simple too, idk what you would need any more shit for.

That is about it, I'm glad Ubuntu exists and I think it is a great distro personally but Debian is closer to my heart.
