Hey /g/, what printer should I buy?
I'm going to be using it to print documents, mainly for uni, and a few pictures here and there. What is my best option if I don't want to spend too much?
P.S. It wouldn't hurt to have a scanner built in!

I like my HP Officejet Pro 8610

Whatever it is, MAKE SURE that it is a laser printer. No inkjects. As soon as I got a laser printer, most of the headaches I got from dealing with my previous printers went away.

this
laser printers may have high initial costs but at the long-term, they worth the price
>thousands of pages per cartridge
>cartridges can be refilled
>page counter is only for information purposes and it doesn't lock the printer when it reports there's "no toner".
HP laserjets are the best if you need linux support

They have a point. I wonder about power though, I had a laser printer and I had to have a new circuit pulled for it.
I have a Brother laser printer. Works pretty well.

I just got an HP OfficeJet Pro 8100 inkjet. $99 and you can buy cheap cartridges off Amazon.
I need color printing for business and this printer prints both sides very easily. I really like it. It is also WIFI capable which actually is nice. It also holds a lot of paper.
I run Linux Mint and the HP drivers work perfectly. Linux just finds the printer and it is automatically ready but do install the HPLIP GUI easy interface tool.
I ran my old office jet for 6 years and it finally died. But this series of printers is really tough and made for hard use while still being really cheap.

Will a printer like this suffice? It seems to have most of the advantages of a laser printer.

Seriously, don't go inkjet. Fucking dried out cartridges and slow performance and fucking smeared ink and low quality.
You can get a brother workgroup mono laser with wi-fi and ethernet and sharp-as-fuck print quality for $100. Use snapfish or shutterfly or walmart photo for occasional pictures. Seriously. No inkjet.
