But wait just a second. Things like grep, ssh, apt, etc etc, these are GNU tools, aren't the developed along with the GPL? How the fuck will such a copyright heavy OS such as Windows get away with integrating such tools into their system?

I don't think you understand the GPL. There have been ports of GPL software for Windows for ages. What matters is that the source code must remain GPL'd and be available.
Microsoft did not modify the source code of GNU tools, they did not even compile it themselves as they are Linux ELF binary files. What they did is reimplement Linux syscalls on Windows so the Ubuntu binaries run natively.
