Why does 4chain need to give you a link? Can't you just Google it?

Yes and
No
If computers are your interest, how have you managed to avoid it?
>>53794935
BSD != Linux
>>53794476
No. you should duel boot. you might have assignment that can only be done on Windows. However Linux offers great tools for development. you might want to install vmware player free on your laptop and try linux in a VM.

be a brave man and go linux all out
M8 op.. it's easy just go ball in without any tutorial you can't go wrong.
Pick ubuntu iso - put it on dvd pr USB stock then the installer is pretty much automated.
What you need to do partition wise is to create a logical swap partition that is preferably double the amount of your ram if you're under 4gb, unless that
If you are doing lots of video editing, visual work go with more than 8 gb.
Even if you do all that but not on a professional level and in full usage all the time then go with:
4g ram - 4 gb swap
8g ram - 4 gb sawp
16g ram - 4 gb swap.
But probably you're never going to load into that swap if you have 16 gb like me you shouldn't have a swap partition at all.
