Also mk808 tv sticks or shits alike to test and code
>>
>>53793495

Kodi is not a botnet. It's 100% open source software you can install on your PC, Mac, Linux computer or Android phone. You don't need to pay for anything.
>>
>>53793528
>mk808 tv sticks

They're quite old now but still work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNyC7dcXx5w
>>
Is the m8s any good? I'm running on a few firesticks with kodi side-loaded right now.

How can I configure kodi so that it buffers a large portion of a movie, instead of pausing every 10 minutes. All the sites that host HD movies have terrible speeds, so I would like to be able to let it sit and buffer for an hour then start watching it.
>>
PseudoTVLive is pretty much the greatest plugin ever. I get to create my own cable channels and surf through them.
>>
>>53793576

If you use certain addons like EXODUS, you can download the movie to your stick and watch it without buffering. Some people also use things like real-debrid to get faster download links
>>
UK Turk Playlists is quite good at the moment. Freshest links daily and a shitload of classic British TV series..
>>
>>53793576
Set cachemembuffersize to 0. This will enable unlimited buffering. It will continue to buffer when you pause.

http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Modify_the_video_cache

For best results you should have a proper HTPC with a HDD or SSD.

Not required, but OpenELEC is much nicer than having Kodi installed as an app.
>>
Why is there so much misinformation about Kodi? People seem to really get upset by it being 100% free.
>>
>>53793720

Should I move the cache file?

Will my m8s have the same buffering issue?
>>
>>53793748

Only if your connection is slow
>>
>>53793744

Would Stallman "Kodi and Chill"
>>
>>53793771

I've got 40/10, which is shit but shouldn't be the bottleneck. The problem is the speed coming from the file host.
>>
>>53793748
All you should do is change cachemembuffersize to 0.

And maybe if you want to you can increase readbufferfactor.

For best results don't use some pile of shit TV stick. Use a proper HTPC.

If your friends are using bargain bin crap like TV sticks or RPi, then yes they will have trouble. If they are using an old desktop or a newer barebones mini-PC as their media center, they won't have issues.
>>
>>53793823
Or the problem could be your crappy cheap media sticks.

Don't be a poorfag. Buy a Zbox and put a laptop HDD or SSD in it.

Don't listen to this retard. Anyone who buys an ARM based Android box for their HTPC is a dunce.

For that price you can get an x86_64 mini-pc.

http://spmc.semperpax.com/

Here's a new Kodi Fork designed for the Nvidia Shield TV and other Android TV devices. I don't know the full story, but there was some infighting between Kodi devs and I think the main Android TV dev left and made this.
>>
>>53793424
Can you get xbmc on android tv? Cause plex gamesteam and netflix make it otherwise perfect.
>>
>>53794494
An x86_64 pc will support more software, and is more powerful.

Additionally, that android box has small flash storage that is slow and prone to break.

Get a barebones mini-PC that can have any laptop HDD or SSD installed in it.

http://www.newegg.com/Mini-PC-Barebone/SubCategory/ID-309
>>
>>53794587
Yeah you can
>>
>>53794572

It's shit. Forkers are the CANCER killing Open Source.
>>
>>53794420
Sorry for asking to be spoonfed, but what is OpenELEC? Does it just boot you into Kodi upon startup or something? Will it be using the latest versions of Kodi?

Also what are those WeTeK OpenELEC boxes? Shit?
>>
>>53794678
OpenELEC is a thin linux install that boots directly to Kodi. It's like a Kodi set top box. It makes a perfect HTPC.

WeTek sponsors OpenELEC so they shill them. They are surely as good as any other shitty ARM device, which is to say shit and you shouldn't buy it.

Trust me, you want an x86_64 barebones PC that takes a standard laptop hard drive. This will give you the perfect HTPC experience.

ARM boxes are too slow and have all sorts of problems related to their soldered on crappy flash storage.
>>
>>53794678

Don't listen to that idiot. You can buy a Windows intel box for a lot of miney or a cheaper S905 box and your experience on both can be good. You can also play Android games and emulators on the Android box.
>>
>>53794815
Oh boy, android games! That's totally worth ruining your HTPC experience for. Because you can't just play phone games on your phone, you need your HTPC to play phone games, right?

A barebones mini HTPC is just as cheap as the higher end android boxes and is immensely superior in every way.

http://www.newegg.com/Mini-PC-Barebone/SubCategory/ID-309?Order=PRICE

ARM HTPCs are garbage for retarded housewives who need an app store.
>>
>>53793424
more like nava sheild
>>
>>53794774
Not all ARM Boxes are slow. The market is just dominated by cheap chinkboxes.
>>
ARM devices make a bad user experience but the plus side is that you will probably not realize that your frustration is due to the ARM device itself. You will blame the torrent you are streaming from, or the HTTP host speeds, or your modem, or your ISP.

In reality you will be having problems because your ARM processor is maxing out when it tries to use the network, or the onboard flash storage is too slow, or the storage is too small to cache a whole file.

But unless you have both an x86_64 HTPC and an ARM HTPC you won't know the problem is your android shitbox. You will think it's some other factor. So you will be ignorant and somewhat pleased with your wasted money. Always pointing the finger somewhere else.
>>
>>53794983
I have an Nvidia shill TV and it's fast af. It costs 4x as much as the average shitbox but you get what you pay for.

Also most of the super cheap barebones PCs have super slow processors anyway. Sure you're gonna be running OpenELEC rather than Windows, but they're still not going to play 1080p Hi10p or 4k H.265, which the Nvidia Shield TV can. If you're going HTPC, you want an i3, not some no-name AMD processor.
>>
>>53795076
The cheap celeron barebones mini-PCs can play 1080p Hi10p without breaking a sweat.

The Atom ones probably can too, but I wouldn't recommend those.

Stop spreading disinformation. You overpaid and got an overpriced pile of shit. Don't try to dupe people into wasting their money like you to make yourself feel validated.

>Don't try to dupe people into wasting their money like you to make yourself feel validated.

They don't serve the same functions, really. Use Plex what? Server? Home Theater? "Apps"?

You can use a Plex server with Kodi too, there's an addon called PleXBMC.
>>
>>53796251

What?
>>
>>53793781
No, Kodi and Chill would be a replacement to Netflix and Chill, which would imply that Kodi is providing content, which it does not
By implying such thing it would also imply that the piracy/streaming plugins are part of the Kodi project, which they're not, but I kind of doubt Stallman would care about this point since he isn't interested in the piracy debacle
>>53794284
Plex is lobotomized, Kodi offers much more extensibility, if you need a server with transcoding capabilities use Emby

>>
>>53798444
>if you need a server with transcoding capabilities use Emby
Why?

PlexKodiConnect now makes the "it integrates with kodi better" argument mute. It gives you transcoding ability, has clients on pretty much everything and offers a more standardized common library than running a mysql server.
>>
>>53800997
I understand that, but if I wanted a dedicated TV box to use with kodi, what would it be for under 50
>>
>>53794572
The current Kodi dev team are such an awful, elitist group of assholes. It's no wonder they've been dropping talented devs for years.

Of course they scapegoat the public perception of kodi as a reason for people not wanting to work with them.

Hopefully SPMC installs puts upstream Kodi to shame. There's no question that android will become the future of the software once Shield-quality boxes drop in price.
>>
I want to repurposed my android tablet as a android TV box, is there an app where I can control my tablet from a phone etc.
>>
>>53801043
Plex is pretty limited in comparison to Emby, specially regarding manual metadata, it can't do .iso and they're pretty fucking jewish regarding some of their apps
>>
>>53801059
Maybe the nexus player
>>
>>53801848
How is Emby better with Metadata? It seems as if Plex has more "agents" than Emby has scrapers. Unless I'm mistaken, you can also just use kodi formatted .nfos as well.

I was about to try migrating from MySQL to Plex in a few days so I'm genuinely interested in an argument for Emby.
