/uj ok guys, we have a serious problem in the tech industry.

We need to stop teaching/ encouraging people (Including women and kids) how to code. We need them to be completely fucking tech illiterate. Think about it. When we were kids, we got treated like complete shit for being nerds, for having an interest in STEM that we had to create ourselves. Now that people actually need us, everyone wants to be like us and we have the upper hand.
I know all you fucking neckbeards love how you can literally snap your fingers and get a job at any company you want now. I know you love your benefits, excessively high salaries etc. If we teach encourage people to get into STEM, we are literally hurting ourselves. Why, supply in demand. Currently there is an estimated 1 million tech jobs in the US that will go unfilled. If there are more people taht cane even do half as good a job as us, we won't get the perks we normally get, we won't get the oreos, the bubble tea, the on-demand company paid vacations etc.

Stop encouraging people to get into STEM. If you like your job how it is, you should start discouraging people to get into it. I propose the following in order to prevent this.

First and foremost. We start a fund. A fund where we all contribute to and use as our main resource pool. Then we hop on Azure, or AWS and start a huge botnet. DDOS the fuck outta codeacademy.com , khanacademy.com and anyone that is trying to help women and kids learn to code. Then we assault hard code. Then we start the rumours, the lies etc. We should do whatever possible to be as elitist and daunting as possible. We need to make it the most hostile and mysoginistic environment we possibly can. Whatever we can to trigger these feminists that are taking our jobs. We need to save ourselves. There are currently 7 billion people on this planet. 99.9% of them are completely dependent on us. Why the fuck would we give them the power to control us?

tl;dr

Teaching women and kids to code will cause over inflation of tech jobs. We loose our comfy jobs, and high salaries

We should be mysoginistic and hostile to prevent people from wanting to get into stem
>>
>>53788560
Calm down nerd, not everyone is an autist like you. It's good if more people go into STEM fields.

You can't replace a skilled person by two persons that are half as skilled, it won't be the same.
If you get less money because there are more people in your field, then either you or your field suck and don't deserve as much money as you want.
>>
It's too late.
They're teaching 12 year old's python as part of the standard curriculum now, I would have killed to have such lessons as a kid.
>>
>>53788611
You're semi right. They'll still get hired. And even access to a low quality alternative is enough to shift price.

I got a BJ from a hiring exec, for a fucking contract. And I still got a signing bonus.

I don't want to loose those kinds of perks

3 kids per every school, multiply by roughly 3000 schools in a state, 51 states that's roughly 45000 kids per year assuming that there's only one CS class per year in each school.

Assuming half get a BA, then we have 22000 qualified kids every 4 years

It is. It adds up. 1 million unavailabe tech jobs cause the high salaries etc.

25000 every 4 years, that would take 40 years at the current rate (Which is growing)

Take into account this happening in all the other countries in the world (Canada, Germany etc.)
You're fucked if you're not full stack
>>
>>53788560
What is wrong with the code on the right / left which is better?
>>
>>53789562
Left is because anyone that has ever written code should know what it is.

The one on the right gas too much unnecessary documentation. It makes longer and stupid. Shirt and concise, buth with documentation where required is good.
>>
>>53789390
40 years is a longass time, that's half of a human's lifespan. And the number of available jobs would grow too.
>>
>>53788560
This is much ado about nothing. Charity funds and outreach programs do not translate into more programmers in the long term. Anyone who is serious about programming has already taken the initiative to learn, and anyone who hasn't will not work for very long.

They don't do the same thing. You can't compare them like this.

The right one has too much documentation, but the left one would not suffer from more.
>>
>>53789562
The right one is wrong. It should give you the bigger of two numbers, but if both numbers are equal, it always gives you 5 because "so random lol :D"

Also, the right one make redundant checks, which slow your program down.
>>
I don't care if the market is flooded with developers... if they're good developers. Problem is these code camps pump out idiots who can't even write FizzBuzz correctly. Then when they fail, they blame an ism instead of their own ineptitude. Most companies are terrible at determining who is a good developer and who is crap so it's easy for these moron code campers to get in the door and fuck everything up. Eventually what's going to happen is enough companies will have huge costly IT disasters and learn to stop hiring code campers. Stupidity has to be painful. In the meantime, it's going to be a clusterfuck. I recommend doing freelance or working at a small shop that you know is free of this poison.

The hypocrisy of it is that she removed all the comments from the "when guys code" part. Which, by the way, is the most legendary piece of code from the Quake 3 source code, which allowed the game to run 3D graphics three times as fast as anything else on the market (look up Fast Inverse Square Root). A bit unfair to compare that to "return the larger integer".

That and she is using comic sans as the font of choice.

Okay, let's say company A hired a staff consistening largely of women and other underrepresented groups of programmers due to it looking good from a PR standpoint, not because of the individual skills of said people. How will they be able to compete with company B that hires based on competence and nothing else? Company B will put out better quality code and gain a reputation as a reliable working partner. Company A might have the moral zeitgeist on their side but will that really lead people to employ them over Company B?

That's saying the companies will be able to IDENTIFY the problem as the incompetent programmers.
They could just copy and paste from stackoverflow, or nag people in IRC until they get the minimum that works, and have a disgusting codebase - but it still works. All the company really cares about is the end product and whether it works or not.

>>
>>53795437
I get your point, but I think skillful development is more than just the code itself looking pretty. I think it's easy to detect the difference between a product that fulfills the minimum requirements and a product that has taken a lot of measures to ensure that the product works as intended. Especially if we consider a scenario where the product in question fulfills a critical role in a system. Weaknesses in such a product would show themselves pretty quickly.

A lot of the teachers are completely incompetent and will totally ruin computer science for the students. If there's one thing we can do to make sure most people won't study computer science, it's to force them to learn it in primary school.
>>
Let idiots "code". The good men and women who can actually think and apply logic to solve problems will not be affected since they are actually competent. Hell, more idiots coding means there's a growing market for tools to make it easier for them which will need to be programmed by people who know what they're doing.

There's no need to bring race or gender or wealth into it when it's about people who can program and people who can't.

Look at the increase in things like high school coding classes like this: you took some PE or some music or some art classes in high school, right? Everyone did. That didn't mean that professional athletes and artists have to worry about a flood of subpar people coming in because they can perform good enough to secure their spot.
