So I got these Yamaha HS80M monitor speakers that I inherited. I'd like to hook them up to my rig, but they have XLR and 1/4" connectors.

Any recommendations on USB or optical audio interfaces with an XLR or 1/4" L/R audio out?

I got this yesterday with my JBL LSR305s.

Aren't monitor speakers pre-amped?
>>
The Scarlett is pretty legit. Do not get 3.5 to xlr as that is an unbalanced connection going to a balanced connection, and you WILL hear mains hum through you're monitor.

>>53782406
I have mine connected to a humm destryer and then thats connected to my pc's back via 1 audio jack.

No need for anything else.

>>53783459
you can just fix it with a hum destryer and not have to pay for anything else

what he said. He somehow thinks analog and digital are equal in sound quality. His mother probably dropped him on his head as a baby

it works though, whats wrong with it?

behringer hum destroyer ftw

just another troll who does not know wtf he is on about. I use one on my BX2's and it's a godsend.

same, it works perfectly

>>53786627
i was genuinly worried for a sec. Hum destroyers are the best, they save you a lot of money. Its funny because diagnosing the problem is a bit difficult since all the store people try to sell you power boards and shit, and then when you go to an audio shop they try to sell you 400$ amp / dac things

Just pull the ground plug from the xlr connectors.
>>
>>53786796
I don't use XLR's. The only other way was to pull the ground from the power plug but that is not a good idea. I looked into the cost of balanced cables (good quality cables that is) and it was cheaper to just buy a hum destroyer for £20. BTW those barrel shaped ground loop eliminators you get on Ebay for a few bucks are SHIT! They destroy the bass.

thats dangerous dude

And so much can go wrong while degrounding something

I'd get a basic usb-audio interface. I'm using the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 since I need the combo inputs too.
Something like an m-audio m-track hub or similar might work for you.

I use a 3.5mm from the mobo to a 1/4 adapter and with a ground loop isolator in the middle to take out the hum. The ground isolator does eat some of the signal strength so volume decreases.

are you russian or just retarded?

can i see the ground loop isolator youre using?

Everyone in this thread is a fucking faggot, I've used a RME Hammerfall hdsp pci interface, it works since 6 years without problems and the drivers work on linux and win

Go for an RME interface

Get a better lamp and something better to prop up your speakers.

Been running Yamaha HS50 through Scarlett 2i2 for the last five years. Occasionally use the mutli inputs, but I mostly game and listen to music through this set-up.

Look at what the fuck they say
The worst is the idiot recommending the m-audio shit

What you want from an interface is compability, low latency and a sound thats neutral and it should work more than 5yrs.

I have the yamahas (big ones) without a woofer and its a pretty great setup for mixing and making music and programming synths.

If you do not make music then you should sell the yamaha monitors because they are not made for "sounding good" they are made for mastering so the song you make will sound equally good on an iphone, an old radio or in a disco.

What do you think the hum destroyer does then, if not degrounding your cables?

Also there's nothing dangerous about pulling out the xlr ground. The pc and the speakers both remain grounded, it's just breaking the loop between them.
>>
>>53783295
You bought an amp for powered speakers. Then you call other people retarded.

Hang yourself, kid.
>>
>>53788315
i got mine originally for mastering on but now i just use them to listen to music with. Gotta say that they do sound good because they point out flaws in music because they themselves have a harsh sound
>>
>>53788378
>>53783371
There's a headphone amp and mic preamp not a speaker amp.
I have the 2i2 and I'm very happy with it even just for headphones since it got rid of that hiss I got from onboard sound.
>>
Question, does leaving powered speakers on cause them to consume large quantities of power?

or do they only power the leds and not the speaker or something like that?
>>
>>53789878
Their power consumption scales with load. The "on" LEDs and keeping the amplifier powered on are fractions of a Watt. You don't want the amps to turn themselves off like on some KRK systems because you'll end up with smeared transients when the speakers turn themselves back on again.
>>
>>53789948
thanks man
>>
>>53789878
>Question, does leaving powered speakers on cause them to consume large quantities of power?
Mine draw 8W each when turned off.
8.5 when turned on and idle.

75W alesis monitors btw.
>>

>DAC 24/96
More like ADC/DAC24/96, which makes sense.
>>
>>53782406
i have a presonus audiobox 44vsl that i quite like. it's not super high end, but it's plenty for what i'm doing and the mac drivers are solid. no xlr outs, but the 1/4" outs are balanced.
