Since Windows and Ubuntu are coming to windows 10, I would like to upgrade. Is there a step by step way to stop the botnet of windows 10? Also is there anything that I can't do on windows 10 that I can on windows 7/8?

Step 1: don't worry about the botnet, because it's been way overblown by "security experts" who have probably never even touched a debugger

The only major thing I can think of that doesn't work in Windows 10 is old copy protection. Oh, and Calculator kind of sucks now.

This is exactly why I never upgraded. I know I can't turn of all of it but exactly how much of that stuff can I turn off?

Hint:
Part of the presentation included a part where the presenter asked Cortana which toy store he had visited last year at Build.

Location data will never disappear. And neither will anything else.

And now that Cortana actually has useful functions (like verbally telling the computer to shut down), it will have microphones everywhere.

That joke makes no fucking sense being as I am on windows and there is no fucking linux command line. Also anyone who does any sort of programming knows what that is. Go to your un-funny played out meme somewhere else.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

i'd like to interject for a moment, what they're referring to as the "linux command line" is, in fact, the GNU "command line" (shell)
seriously, bash isn't part of linux, it's not even only supported on linux (shit, even mac os comes with bash)
>>

>Is there a step by step way to stop the botnet of windows 10?
Yes. Step one is "uninstall Windows 10".

Seriously, it's privacy invasion is baked deep into the OS. It'll go around your hosts file so you can't block it from communicating with MS servers without doing it at the router. Think about that, your OS's networking stack is working against you. You'll never be able to secure this. If you care about privacy at all, you can't use Windows 10. Stick with 7 if you really must, you get security updates until 2020. But you still have to fight MS trying to sneak in the GWX and telemetry shit - they re-release these all the time so even if you hide them, they'll pop up again. The only proper solution here is to switch to Linux.
>>
Why not just use linux?

Will wondows slowly transition to being open source do you think?

>Is there a step by step way to stop the botnet of windows 10?
not without firewall rules at the network/router level.

That's not FUD, that's literally how ALL THREE SMARTPHONE SYSTEMS work.
It just so happens that Cortana now front-ends this creepy as shit fact.
There is no way in hell that you'll ever get to disable all of that spyware shit.
