I found one of these for $20.

Online reviews are all over the place, but it averages 3/5 stars on Amazon.

Is it shit?

this is much better, today is the last day for the rebate.
ALSO, on amazon prime it's only $30 with free 2 day shipping, making your power supply a mere $15. You can only get one rebate though, so don't try and buy 19 of them or anything, I already asked customer service at evga.

yeah that's beyond shit m80, I'd be surprised if it's good for more than half it's rating.

the built-in protection totally prevents that from happening, only ancient power supplies don't have this as a standard feature

Are you seriously convinced that piece of shit in OP is up to spec? You're overestimating how shitty some power supplies can be, especially off brand chink shit

>>53743793
Yeah I'll recommend it. I'm not a gaymer so it didn't really affect me except slow down rendering time

As someone who has actually owned a Diablotek PSU: Dont. You get what you pay for, and Diablotek units are never ever actually capable of what they say on the label.

Does it have an 8pin CPU connector? My dad recently bought some computer cases that came with some shitty PSUs and none of them had an 8 pin cpu connector.

Yes. Hope you enjoy it failing after a month and taking all your other components with it.

Just choose from here:
http://www.overclock.net/t/183810/faq-recommended-power-supplies
Diablotek will never find their way there unless they start making good stuff.
>>
>>53745359
this is an alright starting resource but is fraught with inaccuracies and biases. you'll always be better off by consulting professional reviews by websites like jonnyguru, techpowerup, and hardwareinsights rather than resorting to anonymous tier lists.
>>
>>53745449

I agree, especially since most people are retards and tend to skimp on psu's to cut costs in a build. It amazes me that everyone knows dodgy electronics cause bad times yet people STILL cheap out on their psu when they can cut costs elsewhere when building a pc.
>>
>>53745466
What about RAM? Can I skimp on RAM?
>>
>>53745496

As a rule, yes. For most practical applications ram is ram is ram so you merely need to get the quantity you need.

Its why gaymen ram looks so flashy - there hasn't really been any changes in memory tech for years so they make it look exxxxxtreme to sell to chumps.
>>
>>53745496
8gb of the cheapest 1.5v ddr3/1.2v dd4 kit you can find is the way to go for gaming imo. all the world's ram comes from maybe 3-4 fabs.
>>
>>53745535
8gb per stick or just a total of 8gb?
>>
Is this shit? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820101010

I'm not going to be playing video games if that makes a difference. I want it for virtualization.
>>
>>53745551

Single vs dual channel is mostly irrelevant.

http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1349-ram-how-dual-channel-works-vs-single-channel
>>
>>53745551
doesn't matter. dual channel is faster but the speed difference only shows in synthetic benchmarks, not real-world usage scenarios.

it's easier to single out a bad stick of ram if you have two sticks instead of one, as well.
>>
>>53745564
it's overpriced.
>>
>>53743745
These cheap ass PSU's actually got banned in my country for not being up to standard.

Just because the tech in general is better does not mean some bumfuck chinese factory will stop pumping out shit.
>>
>>53745564
It's fine, but probably a little overpriced. Klevv is an in-house brand of SK Hynix, one of the few companies in the world that actually manufactures RAM.

Grab a 2x8 kit, unless your mobo supports quad-channel RAM.

>>53745359

>zalman zm-hp tier 2

Kek, I've seen a shitload of blown PSUs from that series.
>>
>mfw got a 10$ 300W PSU from "Boost" and it's still working perfectly after a year
I ain't even mad
>>
Do not cheap out on your PSU, OP. Shit ones like that are made of cardboard, hot glue, bare wiring and no mains separation.

I'm not kidding. Open one up sometime. It's fucking horrifying. Bare fuse wire, paper hand-wound rough transformers (not even insulation tape). A total lack of respect for any electrical standards whatsoever. It's a miracle that any of them work at all, but no way in hell should you be plugging one into your PC or your mains.

This is PC building 101.
>>
>>53743411
It's like $10 more to get a non shit psu

I always get a kick out of power supplies with brand names that don't fit the product. Sparkle and Diablotek...cuz when I think about reliable PSUs, I like the first image in my head to be sparks and hellfire.

>Literally Diablotek PSU
>Is it shit?
You realize Diablotek is the brand that started the bad PSU meme? When people say cheap shit computers come with "Shit diablotek PSUs" They're literally referring to parts so bad that they will inevitably explode and take your entire computer with them, and that this is the brand that started it all.

tl;dr:
Yes, it's shit. Get something at least at a tier 3 level from the PSU guide (google PSU tier list)
