Just get Ubuntu, it will probably give you the least amount of headaches
>>53738674
what attracts you to it?

Best Linux distro to date :^)
>>53738728
I heard that it is going well and is climbing positions, but I dont know about it.
I recommend 4.4.6, the later versions have some bugs

>this is one of the most popular distros
>I've literally never heard of it
>>53738352
Get Kubuntu or Ubuntu. If you really wanna dig deep, install arch and pull up the arch wiki on your phone.
>>53738352
Funtoo.
>>53738674
Community is nice. Met with a couple of them at FOSDEM last year. Don't run the distro myself though.

Popularity != quality

>install arch
Don't fall for this meme, Arch is mediocre tier at best. Ubuntu is easier, Debian is smaller, Gentoo is more customizable. Arch has literally 0 benefits over any other distro.

It has the benefit of letting you into the Soopur Seekrit Klubhause.
>>53742294
I honestly preferred Kubuntu over Ubuntu. Didn't seem so "in your face", and it runs faster.
Fedora has great package management (better than apt)
*buntus and Mint are incredibly easy to use
Gentoo if you have specific needs (like custom kernels or extremely low performance hardware)
Debian for servers
CentOS if you have problems with fedora but want rpm.
Manjaro if you like the Arch philosphy, but don't have expendable time.
>>53738352
Go with Mint
>>53745309
Shh! Don't tell anyone about the SSK!
THERE IS NO SOOPUR SEEKRIT KLUBHAUSE FOR ARCH, GO ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS, NOTHING TO SEE HERE
>>53738352
Debian testing minimal install + xfce
>>53738352
get CentOS. Learn it back wards and forwards and you're more likely to get a job.
(pic related, my CentOS 7 machine)

Literal Windows 10

>steam
>>53746307
I swear every time I post a pic of this machine someone always points out Steam. Is it really that odd to have it installed???
>>53746362
on a workstation os/work machine, yea
>>53738352
If you don't know what you need then I'd suggest Ubuntu.
>>53746041
why arent there borders on the panels??? weird
>>53746362
Well, some people want everybody to forget that Steam on Linux is a thing, as it removes one of the crucial arguments against this OS:
Linux has no gaems!!!111one!1
>>53746371
meh, yeah it's a workstation, but I listen to music from it and play NES games when I'm not busy. Don't see why I can't play a halfway decent game too.
>>53738352
Fedora, mint, or if you have a high IQ arch. Ignore every other comment.
>>53741331
b-but
>>53738390
>it's higher than arch
>>53738352
Slackware or Debian, anything else is meme-tier

A flavor of Ubuntu.
Kubuntu would probably be the least shock.
Ubuntu GNOME has the top notch eye candy, but seems a bit like a mobile OS.
Regular Ubuntu is good for general purpose and lightweight without being stripped down.
>>53738352
If you want to be leet, install Lubuntu and rice her out with the suckless tools suite, and contribute.
