SD cards are slow as hell and have a fairly limited number of write cycles. And HDDs are cheaper per GB.

Because solid state memory is terrible for offline storage. SSDs, USB sticks, SD cards, they all have very short power-off data retention, in archival and backup time scales.

And in some systems you get this strange overload of the motherboard where it will slow down your internet connection. You think I'm bullshitting? Try it and see. Copy a big file to a USB drive or SD card and you may see a slowdown in other system activities.
