>tfw you fell for the CS degree meme
I was looking at graduate programs that focus on machine learning. You are better of majoring in math if you want to be successful in them.
>math requirements for a cs degree
calc 1, 2, and 3
linear algebra
baby stats/probability
discrete math
>required courses to do any real work in machine learning
a rigorous course in probability
real analysis
functional analysis
convex optimization
numerical analysis
stochastic processes
topology (not required but nice to have)
I mostly picked math electives for my CS degree so I got most of that background
What sort of shit school you go to that didn't prepare you for this?
But really, machine learning is a fucking meme. Zero practical application.
Math major CS minor atm. Start doing your own projects. improve yourself beyond "required classes"

you're a fucking idiot you know that? has anyone sat down and explained the sheer retardation you emit with your existence?

yeah real useless you fucking shitbird. you're the same dumb sack of shit would have said electricity is useless, because all it does is glow metals and shock people. hurr durr look at my hindsight. you have zero practical reason to live.bite a fucking train track.
>>53713982
maybe you should have looked at grad programs before picking your undergrad shit
>>53713982
Did you at least get good at sucking dick? Being able to deep threat without gagging or barfing will earn you a pretty penny on top of the standard rate you charge.
>>53714158
wow salty af
>>53713982
Good thing I want to work with distributed systems and operating systems.
>>53713982
the "baby stats/prob" is actually the exact, identical, same course as the full stat and the full prob except accelerated.Whereas the full course you'll be reviewing the same concept without variation for 5 classes straight, you get it in a single or two classes in the so-called "baby" stats/prob class.
The great majority of well-performing ML experts who aren't too old to have gotten a BSc before CS degrees were a thing are CS majors, not math majors.
Real analysis is useless for ML, I have no idea why you would think otherwise. Numerical analysis is only useful if you're going to write and maintain ML frameworks, NOT if you're going to do ML research. Convex optimization on the other hand is not enough for ML, you need integer, non-integer, linear, non-linear, convex and non-convex. All in all, this spans 2 - 3 optimization classes.
Stochastic process is also useless in ML. However it's useful in RL.
Functional analysis is useless in ML.
Topology is more necessary than these, but exactly as you listed, it's not required - just nice to have.
Statistical physics is also nice to have, so is neuroscience (less so than topology or stat phys, though). Math stat would be really good, too.
But you're literally complaining that after you took your core courses, you aimed for a janitorial track except you wanted to be a scientist: you're literally blaming the degree for your own mistakes.

0/100, you're not fooling anyone
>>53714081
Even just the top most popular user-facing ones:
-Ad placements are all handled by ML these days.
-Self-driving cars are about 50% ML, 50% RL.
-When you deposit a check and your bank magically detects the amount written on the check, that's ML.
-Alphago is ML with some RL.
-When your face is located in a picture (various social networking sites, your camera when you take pictures, etc.), that's ML.
ML is beyond superhuman in almost every vision task, as well as almost every game-playing task now that we have go beat. It's approaching human-level performance on most language tasks, but language is a weak point for ML right now.
RL completely destroys every other approaches for automated, dynamic, general goal completion as well.

Butthurt as fuck, lmao. Yes, I will take fries with that.

What's stopping you from picking up machine learning after CS?

Stopped reading right there. Who the fuck in their right mind would use ML to do a designer's job?
>>53717531
I'll take a #3 with a coke.
Yes, I'll take fries with that.
MacDonald's, fuck yeah!

I was just about to sign up for computer science.
I mostly expect to get a large assortment of knowledge about computers, mostly the software and programming aspect, so I can use it for my own projects.
I love machine learning too, but It's more of a nice bonus than the goal I expect from it.
Should I go for pharmaceuticals instead?
>>53713982
So why didn't you just take those classes? Then you top it off with your MSc.
Plan ahead, you mong.
>>53717976
No, Timmy, you do not need a physics PhD to be a janitor.
>>53717976
Don't fall for /g/ memes. CS isn't a bad way to go at all.

It's bad if you want to be a codemonkey, or if you're retarded like OP.
>>53718103
Unless you have a passion for it I wouldn't suggest being a codemonkey anyway.
>>53718145
I wouldn't suggest being a codemonkey even if you have a passion for it, desu.
Well, unless you're in india since it's your only way out of the shithole.
