>not buying Cat7 cables to future-proof your home

Why are you such a pleb?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B013W0ARNY
>>
Cat 5e is the cable of the people
>>
I just bought a cat6 cable. It's 75 feet long and I paid like twelve dollars. It's also pinku.
>>

I'll be dead by the time my village in central europe gets more than 5Mbp/s, let alone fiber

>inb4 countryside fag
>>
>>53698949
why didn't you opt for 6a? they're not that much more expensive and are (technically) the latest recognized standard
>>
>>53698913
Cat6 and even Cat5e can do 10G

What would I want Cat7 for?

are there really that many morons on Amazon? Cat7 isn't even an officially recognized standard, 6a is the newest. hell even then 5e should be fine for almost everyone's use cases for the forseeable future
>>

unfortunately replacing the Cat5 cables in my home would mean breaking open all the walls.

Fucking liars.

Cat7 is NOT specified for RJ45 connectors. Anyone selling "cat 7" cables with RJ45 connectors is a liar.

Networking equipment is usually set-and-forget, unless you're a retard. Why are you constantly plugging and unplugging ethernet cables?

There have been some accidents in the past when retards thought they needed the best, triple-shielded Cat7 there is, but then don't know how to properly ground the shielding and end up frying their electronics and starting electric fires when charge creeps along the shielding.

The best thing is that plain old I shielded Cat5e can do Gigabit just fine, and even 10G unless you have to run single loops longer than 100 meters or have so much interference that you need shielding because you live inside a fucking nuclear power plant (protip: use fiber then)
>>
>>53699274

Meant to say unshielded of course
>>
>>53699119

the different colors make it easier to follow the cables to their respective rooms
>>
cat7 doesnt even have a final standard that everyone will abide by. only an idiot would run any drops with those

cat 6 is fine, especially since 10 gig hardware is so fucking expensive you will probably never run it in a home environment
>>
>>53699083

To be clear, Cat7 is actually finalized as a standard, but it's only recognized by ISO at the moment.

I'd still stay away from it though and just go with 6a for newer drops.

Connect the rack or the patch panel with the equipotential bonding bar, which should be near your fuse box.

If you don't know what you're doing, better call an electrician. Or use at least unshielded cables

What's wrong with 5e? I have a 4200 sqft home and all runs are under 44 metres so they can support 10gbe

What's with Cat7 not being approved? Is it a reason not to get it?

Because all the wiring in my house is cat 5e and I only have a gigabit switch. Plus, the cat5e I buy is Belkin flat cable. They don't make flat cat6.

Buy and crimp the more expensive Hirose terminators.

You can't break them quite as easily, they're very sturdy.

This is 4chan, people feel the need for a insane amount of internal bandwidth for no apparent reason
>>
>>53701485
As long as the run is under 44 metres CAT 5e can do 10gbe

>>
>>53701539
I actually wanted the insane shielding since the cable runs next to power lines and what not, right down an old chimney in the house (that already has a lot of cables inside).

Cat.7 cables are silly well-shielded, there is absolutely nothing showing up in the tests I was able to run.

With a poorly shielded cat5 something cable, the signal actually suffered.
