Hey guys. What are the best laptops for writing? I'm searching for something cheap, light, and with a good keyboard. It would be normally used with LibreOffice and LyX.

Also, it should be small. Not bigger than 14 inches.
HP Elitebook 2540p
I've never found a laptop with a better feeling keyboard

Only producing music with Beats is worse. Stop hating yourself and get a Retina Macbook.
If you're really that dirt poor, grab a Chromebook that has a keyboard you like and put Loonix on it.

Have you looked into 2in1s OP?
Read: foldable touchscreens

>>53696852
I dont know, the small ones are somewhat light. But you will never find a better typing experience on a laptop than on a old thinkpad
>>53696882
Pretty shitty battery life and trackpad tho. Besides, not that cheap unless you buy used.
>>53696898
2304 × 1440 on 12" is high enough for massively better reading and more work space but not high enough to rape battery and performance. Best of both worlds yo.

The X series ThickBads , maybe X220
You're not gonna find any other laptops with keyboards as good as those
>>53697326
Yeah this.
Get an X1 or an X260.
Are you a bad enough dude

It doesn't matter as long as your text editor is optimized for reading rather than publishing.

yes

I got a free ThinkPad from my father, his old work comp.
Now I only use my old x200 (from 2009) instead of all the other options, because it has such a nice keyboard. Get a few years old ThinkPad, best keyboards I have felt on any laptop.

I have an x41 that is light and small but it's old so it's not very powerful.
Keyboard feels great though

I've got a couple of coats that weigh in at just over 3kg. I can wear them, sure - but it's hardly ideal unless it's cold as fuck out.

First of all, please reconsider if that´s actually what you need. If you need a computer to write, 14-17 inches is probably the ideal. You need space so you don´t strain your eyes.
You could get two laptops, a bigger one for common use and a smaller one to use when you have to be on the move.
In any case, I´d recommend you Thinkpads. The old ones. They´re hard, extremely resistant to damage, and so well made that they still work perfectly despite being years old.
The X220 is ideal if you want something small. I have a T400, which is bigger, and it´s wonderful for daily use.
I have no idea what´s LyX, but they work flawlessly with some light Linux distro and OpenOffice. Windows works fine too, though a little slower than it should.
You can probably find both computers (we´re talking second hand here, of course. They´re not found new anymore) for less than 500$, and if you search well even less.

ThinkPad T420

It's the most popular switch and the safest so they put it on the laptop
Thinkpad X200/X201/X200s/X201s/X220
any one of those are exactly what you need
