we know there's always going to be a place for desktop PCs (building, upgrading parts, more performance etc.), but is there really a place left for Apple desktops when their portables are so good?
>>
>>53680309
Their desktops are competitively priced compared to other offerings from Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc. They are not part of the gaymurr market.
>>
>>53680309
There was never a place for Apple desktops to begin with.
>>
>>53680538
all in one that just werks and comes with a professional grade IPS panel?

While I don't like it nor would I buy one, I could see a market for that

Get a MacBook Pro.

There's such a thing?
>>
>>53681148
You'd be surprised.
>>
>>53680309
Well, their desktops have become quite niche products for quite a while.

I mean, the mac mini is basically a NUC with notebook parts.
The imac is a all-in-one with laptop components.
The mac pro has workstation hardware which is seated in a defective cooling solution that makes it throttle and underpowered. It's not meant for ordinary desktop users, but neither is it for real pros. It's more for like prosumers with lots of money to burn, like youtubers who want to feel special for owning one.

So, Apple hasn't been making actual desktop products for quite some time. They're in the mobile gadgets business mostly and they're selling some products which can be used as desktop computers, but which have mobile computer components.

I have an iMac at work, and a Macbook Pro for home. I considered an iMac for my home office just for the bigger screen, but the MBP does everything I need, so I just got a 27" monitor and a dock and its perfect, plus I get the 2 screens to work with. Guess it depends if you want portability, but a MBP and a matching Apple thunderbolt display sure is nice if price isn't an issue.

>ib4 irrational apple haters - I make 6 figures and use my computer for work not games, get over it.

>gaymurr market
So you have to resort to namecalling to somehow invalidate how good these products perform ?

What about the 16 core 32 thread workstations you can get nowadays from ebay for ~600 USD?

We have some at school. We use them to develop on iPads. Not bad machines but nothing to write home about.

This is sad. The old Mac Pro design was actually a competitively priced workstation when it was introduced. The new Mac Pro is just garbage.

Yes... Hi.

>Apple portable products
>good

Pick one. My father got my mom a 15in Macbook Pro for Christmas this year. I was helping her set it up as best I could and the thing was just downloading updates and got hot as fuck. I advised them to exchange it and when they went in the "Geniuses" said that it's perfectly normal to have it get that hot. My 6 year old ASUS laptop doesn't get anywhere near that hot.

Yeah, if you find a good one from 2012 for a few hundred bucks, it's worth it. You can get an i7 one with an SSD in it, max it on RAM and you have a small beast that can be used for pretty much anything.
>>
>>53684070
at the prices they're going for, it's better just to buy one new and be ahead of the curve for future OS updates..
>>
>>53682577
And you can get a decked out dual CPU Mac Pro off ebay for cheap too these days.
>>
>>53684477
Well I got an i5 one with 16gigs of RAM for like 350 bucks, I think. I actually even got warranty on it, because the seller was a big ebay shop from Germany and they had unsold stock.

I can even play some LoL on this small thing, on high graphics.

I am thinking of getting a NUC in the future though. The macmini is kind of a pain to upgrade, even though I have the late 2012 model with unsoldered RAM.

5K.

Until there is an affordable 5K screen, iMac is the best desktop you can buy (unless you need much more power)
>>
Apple needs to do what Windows is doing with their phones.

Connect an iPhone to a dock or Apple monitor and have that act as a computer.
>>
>>53685044
That shit would be an annoying experience.

Apple is right at keeping phones for phone stuff and computers for computer stuff,

If you don't need to do any filesharing lmao buy an Apple computer. Finance my economy for me. In reality how can humans propogate this idea of brand loyalty. Most computers were produced by American capitalists.

I'm waiting for the next refresh to get one for Mac development. I'd be fine with a VM but that's against Apple's EULA.
>>
>>53686243
if you're doing anything graphics-intensive, it's more cost effective to get a MBP.
>>
>>53686658
Nah just standard desktop application.
Not going to be the main dev platform anyway, mostly to build and check that shit actually works on OS X.
>>
>>53680309
Apple desktops use laptop components now.

>we know there's always going to be a place for desktop PCs (building, upgrading parts, more performance etc.), but is there really a place left for Apple desktops when their portables are so good?

not when the imac is the only one that can drive a 5k display and is the only one that has seen any recent updates.

around 10 months since the last retina macbook pro bump.
almost a year since the macbook was released with no bump.
over a year since the macbook air got a bump.
