This is what happens when you buy a Samsung meme SSD
So now that your "16 GB RAM meme" thread has been deleted, you're bringing out the big guns? Good luck with that.
>>53679724
Not me. Just pissed.
Or am I doing something wrong and this poor performance is my fault?
just your fault

This one is supposed to be a 850 EVO
>>53679929
seems like you dun fucked it up , are you defragging it? defrag is horrible for SSDs
What the fuck did you do, reach 99% of the write endurance?
>>53679946
Received it yesterday and just plugged it in.
>>53679987
Maybe amazon fucked me over with a used SSD
sounds like a personal problem.
All my samsung drives are considerably faster then my other SSDs

Yeah seems like it was DOA
You got a bad SSD or you fucked something up badly

Samaung will never fix the vanilla 840. There the only solution
http://www.puransoftware.com/DiskFresh.html
Download hdtune and check smart data, also download AS SSD and run the benchmark.
>>53680776
Sounds like some snake oil

So glad I still use a reliable hdd instead of some meme tier shit that dies on you within a year

that is a single drive.

I thought it was the 840 evo that had all the problems i have had ZERO issues with my 840
>>53680893
840 Evo has been fixed a long time ago.
840 vanilla is still broken and will never be fixed.
>>53680791
Hm interesting.
>>53680729
Probably an 850 evo
My read/writes are about the same on mine
>>53680729
You have the gimped version of the SM951. It's limited by its controller, hence the less-than-stellar NVMe speeds for anything other than random 4K.
They never released a non-OEM version of the PM951, since the SM951 all but replaced it.
840 evo 250gb
840 reporting in. Works like a charm.
It's cute to see people who paid 400 extra for a bigger ssd from apple when they will literally never saturate the speed.

Might be a bad SATA cable. Try replacing it.

NVMe with M2-to-PCIeX2 adapter card.
Anyone using a SSD with a SATA connector fell for the meme.
>>53682349
nice b8.
the point of an SSD is just to lower random block seeks from ~10ms down to 10s of microseconds, which SATA deals with just fine.
most end-user apps can't come close to saturating PCIe SSD bandwidth and leave the bus mostly idle between pending read/write requests. this is not likely to change any time soon, since most consumers have no need for sustained transfers faster than the ~125MB/s gigabit ethernet allows.
>>53680792
Before/After it work for me. Do it's very 6 month

>>53681566
This is probably a stupid question but that's a SATA SSD how does it get over 600 MB/s?
any software to test speeds on a linux machine?

RAID0
>>53683411
Nevermind, found one. My ssd is fine :)
>>53683439
So it's actually 850 evos then
So is there anything wrong with using TLC SSDs? They're significantly cheaper and really how often are you writing more than like 6 GB at once, and if you do it's probably from a slow source like an HDD anyway.
>>53683556
The issue with TLC wasn't the speed, it was the longevity and reliability. Now it doesn't matter, just buy from the select decent companies and you are left with the luck of the draw on how long it will last, just like with any type of storage.
>>53680877
rMBP masterrace
>>53683556
They are fast, but they will last less.
They will still last you years if you buy good quality ones like the ones made by Sandisk.

>>53679704

SAGE
>>53680002
So RMA it, you got a defective ssd.
>>53688244
>saying that you are saging
>>>/reddit/
>>53685557
The problem isn't really about quality as much as it is the technology itself. Maybe they can improve the controllers, insulate between the layers/cells better etc but they can't do much atm about the cells wearing out.
>>53683556
Evo Pros use both MLC and TLC (like many others, granted). Iirc evos had some of the least effected speeds regarding cache exhaustion. In longevity benchmarks the evo pro is always on top.
Even a tlc ssd will last long enough until it is replaced. Check some benchmarks, even when the evo 850 is rated 150tbw (or 75) it goes on for 600 before any errors. Pro lasts to 2PB. No need for any alarm really, the stigma is unwarranted completely.
Sounds like you need to enable AHCI mode, not IDE.
Something feels... wrong. Even when taking age and controller into account.
You're gonna get a lot of shit for this because g is full of poorfags who can't afford proper reliable ssd's from Intel, Plextor etc.. and bough those Korean scam drives instead who can't even into proper firware

Was planning to buy one but I don't know now, don't have money to spend in a new one every year
>>53694231
>I read SSDs have shit life? Like way less than HDDs?
Only if you buy cheap currytech SSDs.
A decent modern SSD will come with a 10-year warranty. WARRANTY.
When's the last time you've had a drive *last* for 10 years, let alone come with a 10-year warranty?
>every ssdfag uses windows
this explains everything
I went and bought a really cheap SSD from a company that apparently doesn't have much of a good reputation. They don't seem to have any firmware updates or anything. It's an Intenso SSD.
The thing is, it's been working fine for more than a year. I'm kinda surprised. It supports TRIM, I have had not much trouble with it. The speeds are not amazing, however it's definitely much better than what I had before. SSD health shows 100% but I never trust that. I'm not going to trust this device a lot but so far zero problems with it. If it dies, it's my own fault anyways for not spending more.
>>53694821
That's not even remotely true. The Linux users just don't post screenshots of windows-only GUI programs to brag about online.

You gotta admit that if there was a GUI for it Linux users would be shitposting it even more than windows users.

For me Xubuntu is the fastest system I had on a SSD. I tried 15.10 for kicks and holy shit I was doing stuff before I could even think of it. Almost as if google was behind it.
However many other things keep me from using that.
Samsung 840 here.

Both are tlc flash. Both had a voltage drift causing diminished performance after 3 months. It was acknowledged by Samsung Germany but nothing has been released for vanilla. Samsung dropped the ball.

>>53703517
Yeah about 33 percent of ssds just don't work.
Not sure why they are getting so popular
>>53680729
Coming back to this thread - it was an 850 evo M.2
Honestly my biggest gripe with SSDs is that you can't nuke them. I mean sure, not giving away your storage devices to anything but the recycling bin is good practice, but what if my drive gets infected with a virus? Usually I will just nuke it and start over. You cant do that with an SSD.
>>53703935
Why can't you? Sure, you cut down the life a tiny bit, but there's no technical reason you can't DBAN a SSD
>>53703971
I thought that the data in a ssd is hard to trace and therefore un-nukable, or something along those lines.
>>53704042
Leave this board. Now.
>>53703935
wut. Just format. Done.
>>53704042
No. We wipe SSDs regularly at work. Formatting will work fine like any other drive. Writing all 0s works fine as well, much faster than HDDs too
>>53680002
Running in ahci or ide?
>>53697381
is that a 950?
I'm really happy with my Sandisk Ultra II. TLC with 10GB+ of SLC cache and it was a lot cheaper compared to the 850 Evo.
