not based on everyone on /g/ claiming to have got >100k starting.

Not really. Those roles often merge into each other and all roles will be used by all major companies.
That image is purely promotional.

It does seem like an overly clear cut view of it, given that in reality you just have people doing different shit with data and calling themselves what they want
Or that's how it works in Startup land anyway

Pretty much. Companies will just hire people into whatever positions they can think up to make that person do whatever work they want them to do.
No roles are fixed, and positions are always changing in terms of work roles.

I work as a data analyst and can confirm the meh pay.
I came in with fuck all skills and a humanities/business background though, so still building out my skillset, not sure if I'll even stay doing data stuff.
But fuck I wish I earned more cash money, startups give great experience but pay fuck all

I had an SQL class once
Jesus Christ DB Management is a terrible nightmare

SQL isn't that bad. It's pretty easy to pick up. What suck about database classes is nobody knows how to teach it in a classroom environment, and it works way better doing things hands on. Also relational algebra is a bitch when you're first starting, but it becomes pretty intuitive once you've actually used SQL
