You're confusing megabyte with mebibyte.

A gibibyte (GiB) is 1024 mebibytes (MiB)

think about it for like 1 second
mega literally means "1 million" and giga literally means "1 billion"
so a megabyte is literally 1 million bytes, and a gigabyte would be literally 1 billion bytes, or 1 thousand million, being 1000 megabytes

So i was surfing this new thing called the information superhighway with my personal computer system when I found this radical digital picture of a smug croaking reptile. I asked people about it on the digital bulletin board system and it seems the digital picture was of a high commercial value due to its extreme scarcity. I proceeded to save this digital picture in a five and one quarter inches floppy diskette in order to store it in a safe place. I went to an appraiser and he told me I should auction it since rich people are interested in such exquisite items, so I did it and now I have enough money to be not in employment, education or training. And that, guys, is my story.

That's not even funny. That's just sad. That shows how fucked up is the web today. That shows how fucking stupid devs are.
I had to create a website few weeks ago, and started to search how to do some kind of things. Things that could be solved in 3 lines in the end. All I could find on the internet was that kind of shit where you need to import a lot of third party libraries or do ugly things with jquery.
And the worse is when you start talking to friends that actually tells you "duuh why reinvent the wheel ? just use this library, and do like that, you'll see it will be faster and easier to implement. It doesn't do exactly what you want, but eh, it's still faster and modifying it might be easy"
>>53664435
haha worth the read
>>53669117
literally the only difficult part of that is that the grid is infinite.bool alive(int x, int y) {
int count = cell(x-1, y-1) + ... + cell(x+1, y+1);
return (cell(x,y) && (count == 2 || count == 3)) || (!cell(x,y) && count == 3);
}
cell(x,y) returns whether (x,y) is alive in the current generation. Then run alive() on every space in the relevant range ((min x - 1, min y - 1) to (max x + 1, max y + 1)) to compute the next generation. Only hard part is storing the values, and that's mostly just tedious, not difficult.

good start but counting neighbours is the easiest bit.
>>53664642
But the first one has actually 31 characters.
>>53669486
as I acknowledge, it's the /only/ bit other than the grid. A relatively simple way to handle the infinite grid thing would be to pick a small size, say, 10x10, and make grids of that size as it becomes necessary to expand, then use integer division to decide what 10x10 grid you need to check for the cell, then modulo to figure out which cell in that grid.
>>53664435
>>53664455
im really curious about the original now, did she catched her watching porn or something
>>53669661
Most implementations handle it as a torus. The tricky bit that most get wrong is handling wraparound at the edges to get torus behaviour on a 2D array and getting the datastructures right to handle correctly flipping generations. I've seen plenty of freshmen not think it through and see waves of life and death pour down the screen as the loops incorrectly handle generation transitions.
