So found a Dell Mini 9 at a thrift store for $5 bucks. Upgraded the ram to 2GB.
What's the best distro for this thing? Best meaning speed and relevance.
Just looking to browse the net, try to run CS 1.6, ease of use.
Looks like Ubuntu, Lubuntu, and Mint. Anything but WinXP
I just run Debian+i3 on my netbook, good enough.
I really like the look of the 9, kind of want one to replace it.

Any distro with a wm instead of a DE.
Maybe something like Arch that lets you choose exactly what you want to install?
I always use mint XFCE, it's fantastic, but I can't say if it's going to work or not.

I had OS X running on my dell mini 9. The sound didn't work though.
I've actually got one of these, and I found a version of Win7 called Tiny7 which fits on the tiny ass SSD in this thing. Just boot from a USB, and install the drivers from MyDellMini, which work fine. Lubuntu also works quite well.

I don't know about how safe this torrent link is, but I just want to say as another user of eXPerience's releases, they are good shit. Used his stuff to debloat Vista back in the day, and even used Tiny 7 on a netbook, though I can't recall the model, it was dell though.
Slitaz is the most lightweight, fast and easy to use, but not so sophisticated as ubangoo and other bloated distros.
Question, the 8GB SSD in this thing is tiny. Looks like a msata SSD.
Anyone know if any msata will work with this thing?

Front what I know, there are 2 types of mini PCI-e ssd, some are just have the connections for the sata port on the pins, and others have controllers, and they connect on the PCI-e connections. I could be wrong but look the name of the SSD you are using, and some on-line specifications.

Found out that it's some sort of a custom PCI-e PATA interface. So unfortunately the standard mSATA SSDs will not work in these.

Anything with just a WM instead of a full DE if you want more RAM reserved for programs, though you could probably easily get away with a lightweight DE with 2 GB of RAM. Could always try to dualboot with XP if you want Windows games.
