How many of the posters on /g/ actually have a job in the tech industry?

Post proof if you can, the more outlandish your claim the more people won't believe you.

OP is J-STD; IPC certified solderer. I also do a lot of the machining for my business. We are a small electrical engineering manufacturer in fly-over America.

I work in a NOC.

Is it tech industry?
>>
Linux is pretty much my job. I can install Arch without even needing to look at the wiki.
>>
>>53640512
Cool setup. Still a student so I have nothing to show.
>>
>>53640678
Wow the opposite of what I thought I'd here
>nice 40 year old milling machine
>does that lathe even work
>tfw no CNC

Thanks though. My machining jobs are not rocket science though. I really want to step up and find a better job running CNC's

>>53640665
I assumed most people are going to be in the software end of the tech industry.

Same. I work part time at my University's NOC, and I slowly work my way to finish my Engineering Degree.

I've also done some minor freelancing gigs.

>as far as I know

I have some bad news for you, anon...
>>
>>53641544
Thank you for your Internet prognosis, but reflowing a 100 pin connector wouldn't be doable with parkinsons. I just play life fast and loose.
>>
>>53641585
... you've got the shady hand syndrome.

Also good work on reflowing that connector. To get my computer's motherboard to work I had to do substantial repair work on my socket 1366 LGA pin grid interface; worked for hours with a needle, tweezers, and a magnifying glass in my basement. Not fun, but satisfying to finally see the machine boot up.

I can't imagine reflowing a 100 pin connector would be much easier.
>>
>>53641585
(also technically it's not a prognosis, it would be a diagnosis)

Nice! Hope you observed the esd standards and grounded yourself. Just kidding I don't give a fuck. Although latent defects are retarded.

Also yes it's challenging. Especially if you've worked with lead free solder, it made me want to rage.
>>
>>53641755
no latent defects in this case; I bought the board for super cheap off ebay once I saw that the only problem its owner described was pin bending and some light scuffing on the PCB.

In the end, I paid $40 for a $150 motherboard, repaired the pins completely with careful re-bending as previously described, and then dealt with the fact that scuffing on the PCB had made my SATA III controller and 2 of my 6 RAM slots too buggy to use.

Military software contractor here... Hardly outlandish; it's low tier software development.

Working in tech is easy, especially if you have low standards.

It's not. We are subcontracted by the military as well. Which may explain the entertainment I get out of propagating hate on /pol/.

There is no shortage of mil-contract work. Not like you'll ever do anything exciting, but it's steady work (always someone to kill or liberate).

All the people bitching they can't find tech work obviously haven't tried applying to a single mil-contractor.
>>
>>53641913

Most of the people in the test team (at my office) didn't even know what a USB port was before working here. Finding one of them who knows what the fuck they are doing is a godsend.

Most places view software testing as pretty useless. Gov and Mil both are notorious for paying next to nothing for the testing part, so we end up hiring people who'll work for $30K maple syrup dollars.

Do you work for IBM ? Can you advise on going the AIX road?

CNC machinist/programmer. Started as just an operator, pushing the start button and making parts for air conditioners and refrigerators.

Learned some stuff and moved on to a bigger company, running CNC's and making automobile parts, learning more everyday.

Eventually got a CNC Machinist certification from my company (don't know if it's actually legit, but has impressed in interviews before) and learned CNC programming.

Now I set up and program CNC routers that cut wood furniture parts while also interning with the same company for an IT + Software + Webdev position.

>>53646091
Okay I am jealous as fuck. Too bad you answered one of my only questions, which is what kind of machining certifications are there available to me. Sounds like a bitching life though. Well done so far tbqh lol.

Cheers to that! I used to run third shift at a magna plant and it was awful, kept that bitch running though. I now work at a lovely machine building shop on the electrical side but I want to get back into ma PLCs so I have to come up with a few of my own projects first.

I work IT at a manufacturing plant. I image new computers, manage use accounts/access, and repair dead laptops/desktops all day.

AKA I do fucking nothing requiring skill or critical thinking.

Side note, my repairs workload has increased about 4 times since we switched to Lenovo from Dell. Thinkpads are garbage in terms of reliability and I cringe when I look at thinkpad jerkoff in the basement threads.

I return to neetdom tomorrow if you consider volunteer work applicable to escape being a neet.
I did about a week at a refurb centre, though in actuality it was simply a place permitted to slap new win7 COA stickers on things and shoot them with compressed air while shilling AVG and office licenses.
Their methods were inefficient and confusing and the improvements were not time or cost effective to implement though they had the means.
What did I learn? Companies tend to donate some pretty nice clobber and it's well worth getting wind of when they plan to dump those stupid sexy xeons for even sexier xeons for little to no reason.

That's because even thinkpad general hate lenovo thinkpads, all they use are the IBM models.
