Is an EVGA 660 Ti for $109 a good deal?

Regardless, what are previous generation equivalents to what's coming out now/tier list of some older stuff that can be found a bit cheaper?
>>
I've got one, it's just fine for 1080p, and a good deal at $100
not really sure what you mean on the second bit
>>
>buying kepler in 2016

Sorry, kid, but kepler performs like crap in all new games Nvidia has had their hand in.
>>
>>53639312

Yeah bro, you should totally buy the one you're looking at on GPUShack
>>
>>53639327
Like, I've heard the HD6990 or whatever is still a good nab at anything around $130 for being equivalent to 280x/380 etc.
>>
>>53639356
Not at gpushack, but a less refutable dealer. Not that I dislike gpushack.
>>
could get 370 for amount the same price and that probably go on longer without breaking, since it being new instead of used

Don't know about le mainstream AAA blockbuster gaymez xD, but Elite Dangerous runs fine at 1080p with max settings no AA on my 660.
Path of Exile as well.

>falling for the 1.5gb meme

get a 950 if you want a lowend card, they only cost ~20 more and the newer ones are coming with the ability to run completely off the power supplied by the pcie bus.
>>
>>53639429
>lowend card
The 660 Ti is more powerful than the 950. (The plain 660 might not be though)
>>
>>53639366

terrible idea, the 6000 series cards never got full support from AMD and they're 40nm. extreme housefires.
>>
>>53639422
Is this actually a thing to go off of, or is Tom's Hardware missing the mark?
>>
>>53639453
It'd certainly help in the winter.
>>
>>53639471
Let's see
>780 ti on the same tier as 390x and 970

How many games published since 980 came out have the 780 ti ACTUALLY perform at anywhere near that level?
>>
>>53639312
No. Buy a 370 and mine ethereum with it. It makes like $3 day for me and runs cool.
>>
Dont be a faggot buy 680
>>
>>53639312
I had a 660 not to up until a few weeks ago.

It can still run everything decent at 1080p if you turn down graphics and the rest of your rig isn't shit.

Newest games I tried were Fallout 4, XCom2 and Mortal Kombat X.
>>
>>53642429
*not ti
>>
>>53639734
I have a 290. Is it worth it to even TRY to mine this shit?
>>
>>53639312
I still have mine, and I'll try to be as honest as possible. The 2gb RAM is a limitation in some games, the fan is a bit loud. It overclocks pretty well and still stands up as a great card if you aren't using some new super top tier cpu. It honestly depends on the game, but it runs 1080p with medium gpu-intense settings on medium just fine.
>>
>>53639471
Its bit dated. So push AMD GPU cards 1 tier up or Nvidia GPU 1 tier lower and you have roughly accurate.

7950 or 7970 matches 780 in some games these days.
>>
>>53639312
>kepler
don't do it, anon.
nvidia support is already dead, and maxwell's will be to in about 6 months.

if you absolutely MUST pick up a previous gen card, go with AMD, since Polaris/Vega will still be GCN under the covers and thus get meaningful driver optimization updates.

you really should consider just getting entry level Polaris/Pascal this summer, either will last you a lot longer for not much more money.
>>
>>53639447
The 660 is stronger than a 950 on paper, just like the 670 and 960, but GameWorks and shoddy support by Nvidia for Kepler totally reverses that in reality.
>>
i'd do it for 80. i got two a year and a half ago for 220 off cl. good cards though, runs most games i play just fine. the blower does run on the hot side, so make sure you have good air going to it.
>>
>>53639366
i bought a used powercoulour 7850 for 65 euro at ebay (germany) for my brother last week, why would you buy a 6990 for 130 dollar ?? you could even get a used gtx 960 2gb for that price if youre lucky
>>
At this price point I don't really think there is a reason to go nvidia. The 660ti is a pretty cool card, don't get me wrong, but you're better off looking for a 7950. That card is immortal, and oftentimes around 80-100 dollars.
>>
>>53639312
you'd be better off going with the HD79xx series from AMD, as Nvidia support is pretty iffy on older cards unfortunately.
>>
>>53643414
this.

I'm still running two 7950s in Xfire, and while I still hate multi GPU and wouldnt do it again, I love the cards on their own.

They're pretty awesome when rendering 3d shit in Blender (assuming Blender's OpenGL code isnt shitting itself).
>>
>>53639312
look for 7950s on craigslist
you can find them for around $100
>>
>>53643414
>>53643487
>>53643639
>>53643065
i don't think op is running a top tier intel cpu if he's considering a $100 card.
>>
>>53639312
No, buy a 750 ti for $109 or a 950 for a bit more.
>>
>>53645775
Or a used 760 for $109.
>>
>>53639312
>1.5/2GB
>>
It's alright for 900-1080p casual gaming although it suffers from the same problem the 970 does. (1.5+0.5GB)
If you can, get the 3GB version which should be okay even for 1440p.
>>
Are you fucking kidding me?

Might as well get some Radeon HD series at that pricepoint. Maybe it's better. The card is too old for any reliability down the road. Might as wekk save the money, add $100, and find a refurbished/used 970
>>
>>53639312
That card is trash OP but I see your comments it looks like you still want it so go ahead.
>>
>>53644859
"amd driver overheads" is a meme. Its mainly the physx shit that gameworks comes with. Even with that, the new games have been amazing for the older AMD 7000 series. Thats just DX11 games. With DX12, this will be even more pronounced.

Nvidia's 660ti is a dead end with no way to improve and only decreases in performance. You're really fucking yourself over if you get the nvidia. With AMD cards being a tier or two higher than nvidia equivalent, it wont even matter if OP has a weaker CPU as the GPU alone will carry it through.
>>
>>53643639
I second this you can over clock the hell out of the 7950

I'm still running a single 660ti and it runs most games at high settings at 1080p. It's a great card that I got shortly after it was released. Now I'm just waiting until Pascal to upgrade.
