Why do people buy these again?

Are you jealous?

The Air is irrelevant. It's an inexpensive gateway product to lure people into buying more Apple shit.
>>
>>53634925
same reason they buy any other apple product: they're retarded
nothing else to it
>>
>>53634925

That can't be real.... I just bought a used laptop with twice the ram and HD space and probably equally good graphics for $200

I'm using a $300 atom netbook that's just as good for studying as a shitty macbook. I get around 11 hours per charge and have yet to experience any lag.

Macbooks are really shitty for the price
>>
>>53634925
They buy them beacaue they are the only macbooks that institutions can buy with CD drives, which some backward staff claim they still need. Happened at my work, a school with a 1:1 program. Staffw ere offered that old pro, or a broadwell air and heaps took the pro because of the CD drive
>>
What the fuck is that? A 2012 Macbook? How can you still buy that? OP must be baiting.
>>
>>53634994

It's not the air, it's the non-Retina Macbook. Even worse. rMBP or gtfo
>>
>>53634925

What the fuck are you doing OP, are you retarded? Nobody still buys the non-Retina Macbooks. The rMBP is actually good value for the price. Don't generalize an entire product line from one shitty old placeholder product
>>
>>53634925
Because people don't know what those numbers mean and have no frame of reference in their mind for a price/performance ratio.

NVMe SSD with 1500MB/s read and 700MB/s write

Actual good battery life

Legendary build, macbooks frequently last for >5 years

As a developer, osx is a godsend. Unix base for developer tools + commercial software unlike Linux. Literally best of both worlds
>>
>>53636177
>good battery life
How come macs only get mediocre battery life when they're using a battery twice as large?

>build quality
They're pretty shit senpai. They only last longer because people treat them better because muh premium design
>>
>>53636177
LOLOL your MBP does not have over 1000 read and 700 write you pleb simp. Please post passmark or geekbench scores that reflect that bullshit claim please.
>>
>>53636177
My thinkpad from 6 years ago was working great, but the screen died, so i kept using it as a server, and now the wifi card died.

The NVMe ssd wont have much of a performance gain with the programs that most people who buy these use.

OS is subjective to a person, so you shouldn't be including that.
>>
>>53636121
Better yet screenshot your Disk speed test using H2TESTw_1.4 as it seems to give the most concise data transfer rate results.

This.

then show me a laptop with a battery that lasts a whole day, a 2560x1600 display, a godlike trackpad that isn't plastic and a backlit display that doesn't feel like shit, and now that we are on it, it must also be thin and light.

it isn't the brand, or the specs you pay for in a macbook. its everything else, you know, the things that makes it a good computer.

this is what all other manufacturers forget about, they go cracy trying to make them as cheap or as powerfull as possible and en up with horrible pieces of shit, and that said,

the baseline rMBP is very decently specced, i have yet to meet a task it couldn't finish, even gaming is possbile, albeit the size makes heat a problem.

You're really delusional.

Macs are all about the brand name. A non mac with better specs will always be cheaper than a mac.

That's litterally just marketing.
>>
>>53636453
its NVMe anon, why wouldn't it be?
>>53636177
generally speaking, does that mean people ruin their shit simply because its cheap? thats not a healthy lifestyle

Chromebook user here. Best $280 I've ever spent. Toshiba Chromebook 2.
>Intel celeron dual core 1.6ghz
>13.3" 1080p screen that is gorgeous

>Boot up times from being off are less than 3 seconds

I was going to wipe ChromeOS and flash Linux, but ChromeOS ain't as bad as everyone says for basic browsing, movies, and shitposting.

i could not give less of a fuck about the retina, all i know is that its fucking awesome, are you aut of arguements?

because i knew exactly what i wanted when i walked into that store, it not like i have 2K disposable income every month, and the macbook pro has no current competitor in its class.

Seriously? Not the guy you replied to but come on dude. Retina display isn't even high quality, it's literally a buzzword to make people like you think they're making good decisions. They even call a section in their store a "genius bar".

Yet any PC in it's price range is almost twice as powerful in benchmarks... and many PCs that are far less expensive dramatically outperform MBPs as well. There is no logical reason to buy a Mac. Anything Apple can do PCs can do better, for less money. Not to mention when you buy a Mac, you most likely will know 1 or several more people with the exact same laptop. Not that it's a big deal in that aspect... just when I buy a badass new laptop, last thing I want is to come into work and find out 2 other people already bought the same unit. I currently have a 2016 HP Envy 14" with fingerprint reader and 540/520 rw, SSD. Win 10 Pro as well. I wouldn't trade it for a Macbook even if the Mac was double the price. (If I had to keep the MBP) My laptop benchmarks above a Mac Pro 8,1 trashcan too... which is super sad, because those were supposed to be ultra fast and super high tech. Sad when a laptop can beat a high end desktop, but realistic when the desktop is made by Crapple.
>>
>>53636696
This. This is EXACTLY why Apple even has clientele at all, they thrive on consumer ignorance... hoping to God all the retards who buy Macs won't figure out how to read and compare technical specs. Lol
>>
>>53636745
Dude Dell is garbage, always has been. Since they bought out Alienware... that brand is now dogshit as well. Even if I got a free Dell with nice specs, I would sell it and buy something that's not a POS.

SSD was upgraded. Has i5-6200U 8GB RAM, 256SSD, 1080p w/ intel HD 520. It's not the baseline no. The baseline does not have SSD, and has a 1066x768 panel, and does not come with Win 10 Pro. If you think yours is better go grab the free download from passmark.com and link your score after you run the full test.
>>
>>53637104
My keyboard and touchpad are twice as good as the macbook. You're pretty fucking retarded for claiming you have used either on a 2016 Envy... compared to a Mac they are better in every way. The new MBP keyboards are shitty as hell.
>>
>>53637104
...and 3 cell or not it's 55.5WHr and with a Skylake processor, the battery actually lasts waaay long.

>>53636714
Plus $20 for a 64GB micro SD.

Very worth it. I can take notes. I can watch lecture recordings. I can type up essays and basic java programs in eclipse.

You'd be surprised what you could do with an atom and 2gb ram these days.

So you're "last 5+ years" argument is invalid as well, since there are many laptops that can do that, as long as you dont buy a POS 400$ acer or something like that.

You guys all asked for proof. Well here is your proof. In fact I do work with large video files for a popular porn producer on my Mac. There you go, one Mac user who actually uses the speed.
>>
>>53638210
Lolol those are bullshit benchmarks, you were working with blocks of data less than 100mb. My write speeds average 537mbps and read 1006mbps working with a 20GB chunk of data in 1,048,576mb blocks. Leave it to a Mac user to fail at running disk benchmarks.

>>Why do people buy these again?

It's the only Mac with a built in optical drive.
They're the 2012 model, Apple still keeps them around for only this reason, since some schools and businesses still require an optical drive.

You can expect them to disappear by WWDC.

>How come macs only get mediocre battery life when they're using a battery twice as large?

9-13 hours (depending on model) is "mediocre"?

The current 13" Macbook Pro Retina battery is 74.9 Wh, which is 50% bigger than that PC battery.

Reviews state the Zenbook gets around 6 hours, the Macbook Pro gets 10-11 hours in real world usage.

Literally nobody has any right to complain about Macbook battery life, much less Apple's very conservative battery life claims.
>>
>>53638628

Blackmagic Disk Speed Test should be all you need.

This is on a Late-2013 15" Macbook Pro Retina, by the way.
