Close call between Sabayon and Manjaro.
I'd say Sabayon though, just for the fact that it tries so hard to be Gentoo and actually shipping with 2 (two) package managers in addition to Portage and none of them actually works the way it should.

In response to the actual question, most modern operating systems (most noticeably GNU/Linux distributions) are all slightly different re-interpretations of the same banal abstractions. In that sense, they all suck.

Darwin/XNU is definitely the best of all, though. 9front is philosophically pure but functionally irrelevant.

most of the ubuntu flavors have shitted themselves for me, but by far Kubuntu shat itself the worst. Not only did it have this bug that forced me to lose control over my sleep timer but the display would break on wakeup, half of the display would be on the wrong side of the screen with a black border in the middle where the left most side of the screen ended, and it would be extra slow to respond.

Then there's the less obtrusive but still annoying things like ubuntu gnome's encryption breaking after one update, on startup when prompted to decrypt it wouldn't recognize keyboard input unless it was force restarted to make it seem like a crash. That also seems to be a thing that repeats itself with stuff like Lubuntu and basic Ubuntu, where you need to press the restart button[or just straight kill the power] after booting once to unfuck the broken boot process.

A runner up kubuntu was Debian Jessie, debianproject crew are a lot further than balls deep into that ideology shit, so far that they use microsoft level fuckery to hide versions of their distro in obscure corners of their website that are closer to working that that borken bullshit they push out front. Nigga I mean, it was easier to find the version/s of Jessie that couldn't open their own .deb packages, couldn't connect to the internet, or had a DE than find the simple and easy debianJessie w/ nonfree packages. When I did finally find it after installing, reinstalling, experimenting, and reinstalling 8 or so times I just said fuck it and went on to something else.

>>
easily Manjaro.

booting into a live session makes it look stable, friendly, and inviting.

but the moment you install it, everything goes to shit. Can't really customize anything because of some logic defying magic spaghetti code just falls apart, like if you replace lightdm with something else suddenly pacman no longer works. Things that by their very nature _should not_ be happening actually happen.

Plus their repository management is absolutely fucking abysmal. I've never seen a distro utterly fail so hard at properly maintaining their own repository and dependencies for various packages. Half the time if i went to install a package, it would pull the package itself from Manjaro's repos, and dependencies from Arch repos, which led to a headache of dependency hell where i couldn't install the package i wanted, because it depended on an older version of another package that hasn't been in the official arch repos for months at that point.

Considering how easy Arch is to install, and the entire point of the distro being to provide a solid and easily installed base to build the distro you want/need, Manjaro is a contribution that literally no one asked for, and it shows. These guys have literally no idea what they're doing, but yet they've convinced so many people that it's worth the time and effort fighting with their reskin of a simple distro

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/LInux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

> Older Mints SUCK
Ok, Yes, they all sucked and could bloat... but it depended on which desktop you're using as to the worst. MATE stripped down was the lightest I found, but it was holey as fuck and crashed a lot. The Debian Mint died three times while I tried installing it so I never even got to use it outside of live disc. Anything older than Mint 17 is crap.

Thank god they decided to overhaul the base with the last stable release of Mint. It's a big improvement and I'm glad they did it. The current Mint isn't half bad regardless of your desktop and the safety stuff can be patched with Ubuntu junk if you want to. It also runs like a feather compared to Windows 10.
