What's the best anti virus software to get?
>>
Defender. CommonSense 2016-edition. If in doubt, MBAM.
>>
>>53630912
Bit defender?
>>
A brain. Don't install stupid shit.
>>
>>53630964
No, read this again:

uBlock Origin w/ MBAM for scanning sketchy files.
>>
>>53630982
Windows defender?
>>
noscript, an adblocker and JRT once a year
>>
>>
>>53631018
Yes, Bitdefender. Windows Defender is fucking shite and flags more innocent files than a triggered feminist.

Anyway, what's even more effective is a good adblocker with decent filters and HOST file edits. See uBlock Origin. You should start with the source of viruses, which is the internet after all. Pre-emptive measures > every other measure.

ESET smart security 9

Best advice I've heard so far in these threads. Also I recommend if you have the need for an IPS/IDS to get one. They are definitely worth it.
>>
>>53630895
Bit defender.

Better than Ublock which just hides add is the main option Adblock - but you have to uncheck one tab to restore complete freedom.
>>
Noscript + ublock origin, Common Sense 2016 with the optional package that prevents you from running .exe installers or keygens from torrents
>>
>>53631480
This, avoid ABP, it just hides ads.

While blocking ad servers at the IP level is effective, why waste your computer's resources on that when you could have your router handle it for everything on your network with zero downsides?
>>
>>53631507
yup glad i switched from AdHide to ublock that actually blocks all ads and doesnt just hide whatever isnt "non-intrusive" according to the paid out dev
>>
>>53631530
This actually looks pretty neat. What setup is this? Custom firmware on a router or some Pfsense-grade shit?

Currently have an ASUS RC68U running the stock firmware. I haven't played around with any customs yet, but I've been looking a bit at DD-WRT.
>>
Adblock plus with - non-intrusive advertising disabled is the same with ublock origin.

Exception adblock with what I mentioned disabled just blocks more and you'll have less frequent broken pages.
I also blocks the ads entirely not just hides them.
It also has a better interface so easy to use, whitelist and disable only for a specific page in seconds, but sure all these are subjective preferences you can't go wrong with any of them so have:

ublock origin or adblock plus and malwarebytes in your computer - keep malwarebytes closed and open it once every few days for a full scan.

Use virus total with crack files which you must use.

Tomato router firmware on an ASUS RT-N66U. Adblock script is "Not so lean adblock" added on from Linksysinfo formus.

Tomato supports countless standard routers. only way to know is to check the compatibility list on shibby's site.

Shibby's tomatoUSB

literally the best network you can have is ASUS RT-N16 + a more powerful access point if needed.

Guy who first posted the Tomato screenshot here.
I actually have it running on an RT-N66U with an RT-AC66U as the wireless AP.
Of all of the wonderful things Tomato lets you do, it seems to have trouble with keeping the WiFi up to the same level as stock.

There are no Viruses for casual users in the Internet since 2005.
Developing good viruses is way to expensive.

Choose BitDefender or ClamAv

>ClamAv open source anitvirus trusted by thousand of freedom fighter
>BitDefender cloused source best antivirus

That's QoS friend. Prioritized connections based on size, port, or destination. Takes a bit to set up but practically eliminates roomates bitching about lag in gaymes, delays in websites loading, etc. Even with torrents running.

Be aware though, if you want something like pic related (Full logging of data transfer amounts per client) you will need a permanent storage location for the data or it gets cleared on reboot. I use a NAS.
>>
>>53631818
I run ubiquiti gear for access points, it's fucking stupid to use a router/switch/AP hybrid for that.

I go

modem -> router RT-N16 -> 16port switch -> computers & 1 AP

I run this setup at 20 restaurants. one has a router with 6 years uptime. there's no arguing tomato is stable as fuck.
>>
>>53631962
>>
>>53631962
If I was running this for a business or anything widespread, I would totally do the same thing. My setup is purely for home use where I don't care.
I did set up one for a business but the only place they use wireless is directly in front of the tomato router or within 10 feet, so it's adequate.

>>53632006
That's fucking beautiful man.
>>
>>53632032
I use that same setup for home too, why do you have two routers you just had an extra one?

the RT-N16 + shibby tomatousb is the most stable shit ever, and for $80 it's a great gateway imo.
and then

>directional
>outdoor weatherproof
http://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-NanoStation-locoM2-2-4GHz-Outdoor/dp/B004EGI3CI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1458686939&sr=8-2&keywords=ubiquiti+nanostations

these are fucking great, they go over 100 feet with ease in rain. more without

yea my home I rent out to 5 people... I guess it matters more. but those directional guys are fucking insanely good for their price.

Had an extra and needed more than 4 switch ports. Figured, why not.

Love Ubiquity's stuff. Same business I was talking about is using a pair of Nanobeam5g's to beam their entire internet connection from another building due to a lack of broadband at their location. a full 110 Mbps down with zero lag beamed wirelessly over 100 feet. These things can go miles, but that's all we needed there.

>what is ransomware?
>>
>>53632246
yea lol, they're badass

I've had experience with the ubiquiti air station things that are $1000 each, now those are fucking insane. put a 1gbps connection through 10 mile range and to multiple devices..

I like the little dishes though for doing what you did (but further distance of course) only issue is you just gotta get them perfectly lined up straight at each other, but as you said the shit never lags.
>>
>>53632320
these too?

This. I believe the official name is HIPS. I've tried some and looked at several reviews. Used to use Comodo's HIPS, but it turned to shite. I've been using Online Armor for over a year and it's the best. Use it together with a good Antivirus (Avira), and someonewhocares.org/hosts as well as uBlock Origin and uMatrix.

AVG free edition and common not installing all programs like a fucking retard.

AVG used to be good. In 2008.

Emphasis on 'used to'.
>>
>>53633241
I've only ever used OSSEC [https://ossec.github.io/] and Snort [https://snort.org]. They work beautifully in work and home environments. I even use them on my home cloud server in case of shitbags.

Isnt it funny how only the anti virus homos get viruses while us normal people with a working brain completely avoid them?

Block ads, dont allow excessive scripts. Dont google for exe files. Use commom sense.
Dont do your casual computing as root.

oh but you would rather pay for software that allows you to be a complete braindead feces eating philistine, i guess thats okay.

This anon is an unconscious homo who doesn't know he got a virus since he doesn't want to use an Antivirus

put your computer into a bathtub full of melted butter. the viruses have trouble attaching to your computer afterwards.
