I've been programming Java for several years, mainly shitty Android games. What language should I learn now? Any modern one?

What kind of stuff are you into? What do you want to make? If you want to write high performance games, I guess you should learn C++. Scientific computing, AI, algorithms? Python. Something more fancy and esoteric? Haskell.

Javascript, Swift.

Learn Ruby. Apparently it's Perl based.
Perl's lots of fun.

I looked into it. Just learn Perl. Ignore that it's dying.

How can I get into coding or teach myself
I wanna try it but have no idea where to start.
Can I do it for free or something.

Didnt mean to quote?
I never even quoted anything what.

I don't understand, you know programming yeah? Learning a new language is just learning syntax if you understand programming languages.

>Learning a new language is just learning syntax
Except when it isn't. Try learning something that isn't c based.

online tutorials. There is a wall though. You will feel like you don't know shit then one day you'll wake up and understand shit.
stick with java and make less shitty games

I would go for some Erlang and elixir,
Learn the functional programming paradigm, language in itself means nothing since you're just memorizing the syntax and some language specific intricacies
