Alright /g/ so my router is a piece of shit and i hate it. My

Alright /g/ so my router is a piece of shit and i hate it. My 2 options are the Linksys WRT1900AC and WRT1200AC. Is the 70 buck difference worth it?

Buy Mikrotik

I'm shit out of luck on a island without the ability to ship shit to myself. Those are the only 2 the store next to me sells.

Muh nigguh

Just buy a TP-Link WR1043 and install openwrt on it.
>>
>>53623386
>without the ability to ship shit to myself
How?
>>
>With a professional-grade, 1.2 GHz dual-core ARM processor, the WRT1900AC is one of the fastest Wireless-AC routers in its class. Unlike standard single-core processors which have to switch between data streams and aren't as suited for multitasking, a dual-core processor can handle multiple data streams simultaneously. The result: better efficiency and performance, particularly in today's multi-device world.
I smell bullshit. It sounds overpowered.
The WR1043 I have has a single 400MHz processor and has no problems "multiple data streams simultaneously". The utilization on it is nowhere near problem levels.

fucking kek'd
but really i hope you never actually consider this meme piece of shit
>>

>Is the 70 buck difference worth it?
In your case probably not.
>>
>>53623541
>WR1043
>802.11n
You're comparing it to something 4x as fast.
>>
>>53623541
the CPU isn't the thing managing the data streams
the wireless card is
this is bullshit
500MHz cpu is more than enough for 3-4 users
if you want to have like 5+ devices using the connection via wifi then get a higher quality router
>>
>>53623564
Which doesn't need 8x the CPU performance.
>>
>>53623584
It supports MU-MIMO which requires more processing power.
>>
>>53623571
So for 3 devices and a pc hooked up to ethernet I should go with the WRT1200AC

good taste

sounds like you should use that
should last about 4-5 years if you take care of it as well
>>
>>53623571
>the CPU isn't the thing managing the data streams
The CPU has to handle the routing and bridging. The wireless card in a non MU-MIMO would simply transmit+receive. In MU-MIMO the CPU also handles triangulation data.
>>
>>53623648
you don't need a fucking 1.3GHz cpu to do that
most high end smart phones have 1GHz CPU and can do a bunch of other shit as well as connect to a telephone network and work as a mobile hotspot (provide wifi)

Why? You can install on WRT1900AC and WRT1200AC openWRT too. I have the 1900 with openWRT.
>>
>>53623837
The 1900 is more than three times the price though.

And honestly you're probably not getting three times the enjoyment out of it.
>>
>>53623677
Up to 10 devices. Arm isn't as powerful as x86.

This piece of shit has no hard device limit. It has a 580MHz processor and I tested six concurrent devices with no problems.

Though it isn't as fully featured. It also gets pretty warm.

Use a little server like a proliant, and virtualize a pfsense instance, pure gold.
>>
>>53623362
Buffalo are good too, Linksys is locked down botnet tier garbage (even if the hardware is good)

don't be fooled
>>
>>53625614
The vendor has devs working with openwrt to make sure that the WRT1900AC is fully supported. I think they got the wifi driver mainlined already.
