Do you have a Seagate Hard drive?
DAISUKI!
and no, I don't.
2tb barracuda. 150MB/S max read. 95 avg. Secondary disk, os on ssd. Works gud senpai
I used to have a 3TB Barracuda, but it died after a disappointingly short life.
>>53616584
>dissapointingly short life
I mean... 3TB in that package surely must have it's risks
>inb4 segate is ass
Why do we hate weebs again?
>>53616501
I have a 20 year old Maxtor OneTouch external.
>>53616738
5 cute facts about maki
>>53616501
Got the 4TB ones. They are also the cheapest 4TBs at the moment.
I have a 2TB Seagate SSHD(SSD hard drive hybrid) that I use to back up my raid array. The hybrids don't do shit for sequential read/writes but they kick ass for random reads and speed up my massive backups.
>>53616501
>do you have a Seagate hard drive
NNNOOOOOO
>>53616501
I do, actually.
It sits in the drawer of my work desk so when I need to run bulk cable through the drop ceiling I can weight the cable at the end and sling it through the air.
Really efficient tool desu.
I have a 3 and a 1 TB Barracuda and a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD
>WD Black
>WD Red
>HGST Ultrastar
>850 pro
I'm good senpai
only seagate drive's I've had have come with laptops
like this
>>53616501
yes, but only because that's what lenovo puts in their shitty laptops by default.
Yes, but it's a seagate drive from when seagate was good :^)
I have a dead one lying around, fucking piece of shit didnt even last a year
Yes I do.
>>53619915
>Pentium D
Excellent choice of CPU my fellow anon
Got 2 Nas drives. Been running 24/7 for 2 months no issues.
yes. ive had it in there since 2012
>>53616501
Yes, NAS class, because I'm not a retard who buys Desktop drives. I use a SSD for that shit.
>>53616501
I used to have several, each for a few weeks.
>>53616501
i don't want to lose my data, so no.
I have a 1 TB one. It's an incredibly slow piece of shit.
Once I win the lottery, I'll pay back my loan shark and replace it with an SSD.
>>53620314
Hint: HDDs generally only come in 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM flavors and you likely don't do much where the cache would matter. This isn't the fault of Seagate. This is the fault of you buying a shitty class of HDD.
>>53620314
should have read the small print f@m
>>53619915
Woah is this from 1992?
>>53616852
i also went with the 4tb, it sadly collects dust now next to my ps2
>>53620335
It was crazy cheap for the time period. It was 40 dollars new in 2011. The next month, there was a massive flood in Thailand where all hard drives are manufactured and prices for every 1TB hard drive sky rocketed to 120 dollars for every manufacturer. The prices still haven't recovered 5 years later.
>>53616501
several, only 20+ year old FH SCSI barracudas have ever given me trouble really
>>53620508
So you're confirming that it's some shitty Desktop drive? Gotcha
>>53616501
Using close to 5 years now, on my NAS, which is turned on 24/7. I guess I'm just lucky.
>>53616501
No. I threw it out when it died.
>>53620562
>>53620538
The moral of the story is that being a Jew can pay off.
>>53620562
If you're running desktop drives I'd be pretty worried.
What's your power on hours? If they're over 25k you better have some spares ready to go.
>>53620585
How so? You sound upset by your purchase.
>>53620593
>How so? You sound upset by your purchase.
That was supposed to be can't. God damn phone keyboard.
>>53620562
Hey, mine too!

If this thread is still alive once I get back home, I'll screenshot the power on hours.
Technically, I have two. Samsung Spinpoint 2TB from after they sold their Harddrive division. They both still have the Samsung branding on them.
I've been using cheapo barracudas since 2012 with no problems, as long as WD keeps jewing us with the prices of their good disks (i.e. not green) I won't switch.
Sure do. Got 4 of them in my PC. Never had a single drive die on me.
Seriously don't get what all the fuss is. They are fine.
>>53616501
No, I'm still surprised anyone even buys them, they clearly don't value their data.
I don't. But I read that their failure rates aren't that bad today. But I am buying hgst or toshiba anyway
I got a 4TB one for Christmas. I think it makes a horrible screeching noise several times a day, but I'm not exactly sure where the sound comes from. I'm going to buy another one soon to use as a backup.
>>53621717
drive reliability doesn't matter that much. Put two of em in RAID1 and use a checksumming filesystem like btrfs or ZFS. Make backups. There, sorted, you can use shitty drives to your hearts content.
>>53616742
Me too, pulled out the Seagate 500gb drive and I just use the bare PCB and AC adaptor to load SATA drives occasionaly
>>53616836
QUIT BULLY
>drive reliability doesn't matter that much
but build quality matters, the conditions in which a drive might fail usually hits all drives in the bunch (power spikes, moisture, bumping the tower, inconsistent supply voltage, extreme temperature variation)
dont think you are safe because you bought two shitty drives in RAID with some barebones controller, reliability and build quality are directly related
>>53620370
>borrow $10,000
>pay back ~$62,500
>stupid fucking people will be the death of us all
Yeah, I have one. I think it's a 1tb 7200.14 model. Works fine.
>>53622760
So a drive fails. Big deal. Put in another one and resilver it. If they both fail at once, restore from your backup.
The segate is unreliable meme came from a backblaze study, of which their latest year's results show WD drives to be the most unreliable.
>>53619939
Thanks mate.
I'm thinking of upgrading to Core 2 Duo (E4700),that's the best my mobo can handle.
>>53620407
More like 2007 (third world/low end 2007).
You might not believe this, but here the technology is literally and consistently ~10 years behind the West.
I use a Seagate Barracuda 2TB in an external enclosure for backups.
I also have an old 10.2GB Barracuda from '97 with no bad sectors or anything.
>>53624691
10.2 GB ?
Is it IDE or something else? 3.25" or something else?
Yes and it's actually queit, compared to my WD.
>>53616501
I had two. Had.
They're dead now.
>>53616501
Actually I do and it's like 6-7 years old I believe
1TB WD Blue
