General GUI thread
What's the easiest way of creating a gui on a linux platform, preferably using either Python or Ruby?
I just want a simple popup window that has 2 buttons and 1 textbox. Zenity is out of question because afaic you cannot customize the window to that extend.
I hate QT because it has so much boilerplate.

Curious as well, not sure if VS just spoiled me but switching to Linux distro it seems like a pain in the ass to make even a simple form program

Python and Qt is the easiest I know of.
Or c++ and Qt
Wonder if there's anything like visual studio for Linux.
I know of the qt designer, but it's not as intuitive desu

Since you have ruled out Zenity, have you tried YAD, which is said to support more complex GUIs?

There is Glade and there is somethink similar for WX, as far as I know about GUI builders.
Well, then there is the whole palette IDEs that have their own way of integrating a GUI builder in the same way as Visual Studio, naming MonoDevelop, Eclipse, Lazarus, GambasIDE, CodeLite, Code::Blocks and probably many more.

tkinter in python; no extra dependencies; anything else is overkill for what you need
