Share your plethora of shitty experiences with this practically useless program.

Here's my complete list of things i hate about kodi:

glad i got that off my chest

Kodi works great. The problem is you, dumbass.
>>
How the hell did you manage to fuck up a Kodi install?
>>
Kodi is useful for people with huge media collections. As far as streaming it's useless. Using a browser is faster. That goes for movies, live TV, and sports. Kodi is a bloated POS...
>>
>>53601080

cant think of a single reason to use kodi
>>
>>53601154
and that's kodi's fault how?

Literally what

Kodi devs pls go
>>

wat
>>
>>53601152
>bloated
bro, even support for the original xbox is still getting (now unofficial) updates
for such a featureful media center program, it's pretty damn lightweight
>>
Even on ssd takes forever to load. Then finding a movie is slower than you finding a girlfriend. So yeah it's bloated. Much easier just using browser.
>>
>>53601264
I just tried it on my PC - 3 seconds from me clicking on Kodi before it was loaded. Sounds like the problem is you.

found your problem

The streaming shit is horribly tacked on and the core devs have disavowed that stuff multiple times, It's not made for streaming. You're using a spoon to try and open a bottle of wine and are complaining when it doesn't work very well.

Id never even heard of "htpc" until now. I have a 120 inch projector screen and I just use my mouse/kb and open files like usual. I don't know if I'm old or something but I really don't see the purpose of a specific case and using software just to play files.
>>
>>53601517
Based on your reaction images and the fact that you've never heard of "HTPC", coupled with how all you want to do is stream, I doubt very much that you're old
>>
>>53601517
>using software just to play files.
Tell me genius, when you open a file on your computer with your mouse/kb, does it open in....a program? Is the purpose of that program...to play media files?

30, old enough. Why would I want software on too of software to play media files, and a fancy case? That seems useless to me.
>>
>>53601551
>software on top of software to play media files
You realize every single media player on earth fits that description right? You're running player software on top of your OS software

And a HTPC could be as simple as a rasberry pi hooked into your intranet.

I'm done with you, you're a fucking moron
>>
>>53601517
i currently have a raspberry pi running openelec (runs kodi)

i just turn on the tv, and there's kodi. fully controllable using just the tv remote
>>
>>53599313
the kodi streaming warez addons became too popular and the site owners cached on and now change their site to break them. If you still want to use it you need to learn python+regex and fix the shit yourself and it will be fine best ad free streaming experience of everything

Oh ok, that makes sense. Does it ever stutter or have any performance issues? I was going to do a project with a Pi for a local grade school but we didn't go through with it and have kind of wanted to do something else with one since.
>>
>>53601264
i'm not sure what you were using kodi for, but if a browser does it better than you weren't using it for what it was designed for
>>
>2016
>using kodi, not plex

Pleb. Only thing Kodi has got going for itself is easier subtitle management. Fucking ridiculous that plex doesn't support subtitle delay/forwarding.
>>
>>53601704
>plex
>software with a premium model
no thanks
>>
The program is fantastic, the devs are some of the coolest dudes I've ever met, the only thing wrong here is you anon. Pls sage.
>>
>>53601684
it does the job, media playback is perfect, the ui is ok
it's only a model 1B, the newer 2/3 models should be much more responsive
>>
Kodi should integrate native in-home steam-streaming and I'd change to it.

As it stands now, plex is superior.

Actually, would be great if valve just fucking bought plex and integrated that into their shitty little steam in-home streaming shit that they've got going on.

>>53601551

Cool thanks, i think I'll set one up as a side project and give it to a friend with some remote storage.

I thought it was just mainly used for streaming. Never had any issues with it otherwise, don't know what OP or other anons issues are, its worked fine technically.
>>
>>53601718
Once you're older than 18, you can afford buying stuff. Something to look forward to, anon!
>>

i don't know where all this streaming stuff came from, kodi has never been designed for streaming
i suppose now the thread makes sense, though

Don't lie to the fucker. I've used a b+ for kodi and it's fucking terrible. UI is slow, playback is shit once you pass an acceptable bitrate at 1080p, loading up the damn files take nearly 5-10 seconds.

Yes, it works, but tht does not mean it is a great experience. Just get a fucking chromecast if you're going to be a fucking pleb cheapskate.

not sure what you're playing, but i often play remuxes on mine, none of my 1080p movies are under ~8G

>loading up the damn files take nearly 5-10 seconds.
i sure hope you aren't using ntfs/smb
>>
>>53599313
Love Kodi too much to complain about it.
>>
>>53601789
Can't remember where I first heard about kodi, but it was proposed as an alternative to torrenting by someone. I'm not OP though, I don't start threads, period. Much less about things I don't like.
>>
>>53601154
To have a nice library appear on your TV that's linked to your NAS?
>>
>>53601828
>>53601806
oh, and also, he'd likely be getting a model 2, not the original, it has a faster cpu, which was the main limitation with running kodi on the model 1
>>
>>53601828
>i sure hope you aren't using ntfs/smb
True, that's probably my fault. When I was using kodi/xbmc, I was loading my media through a NAS.

I'll try the UI to 576p thing later.

I've been using plex as of late and while I do enjoy the "sync" option of theirs, kodi/xbmc was superior for actual media playback.
>>
>>53601842
then they really don't know what kodi is meant for
video addons that don't integrate with kodi's library are generally terrible to use
kodi's library is the main reason to use kodi, if you aren't using it, you probably don't need kodi

Wow that was so hard, fukin useless software amirite.

>>53601722
It runs fine, you can overclock it a bit (one level above safe) with no real risk of damaging it.

oh, a nas is fine, i stream my media over nfs (compared to smb it's a lot less cpu-intensive)

makes a big difference when just moving around the ui, again due to cpu load
won't affect media resolution
