Op is still a retard for not buying cat6 though.

you've clearly never worked with cat7 if you think there's even the slightest reason to use it for residential.
>>
I've never heard of CAT7, only CAT6e.
>>
Cat6 here. Had to get creative since there are no straight drops down from the second floor.

Why in the hell would you use Cat5e over Cat6a?

What's the port price for 10gbE is it still around 350usd?

holy shit you fucked up OP. Time to rip it all out and go with cat6.

Did you not even think about asking /g/ before starting this endeavour?

Fuck.
>>
>>53594612
Never bothered looking it up. My CAT6 1Gb/s is fine for what I use it for. Now fuck off.
>>
>>53594948
cat5e is Fine for a residential installation
>>
>>53594934
Fiber is only useful for long runs. I have a friend who owns a farm, and he laid about 1500m of fibre to connect his main house with one of his farmhouses.

Dumbasses not realizing the chance of getting 1Gbps speeds anywhere in the world is very unlikely, especially if OP lives in America, where the Gb speeds haven't even emerged upon commonality. The likelihood of getting 10Gbps is completely and utterly impossible.

ping between 21 to 50 and a speed of 750 to 850 kb/s

Dude is wiring his house. Its better to do it once and do it right than be crying on /g/ in 2031 about his shitty cat5e wiring.
>>
It cost like $30 more to wire my house with cat7 instead of 5e. Why would anyone wire their house with 5e?
>>
>>53594687
Category rating. Category 5, 5e, 6, 6e, 7
There are other cat ratings but those are the most common, 5e being the most likely you will run into.

lmao then you should defiantly be ashamed for having an American ISP
>>

Prices will come down as availability becomes more wide-spread. Before this we couldn't even get over 100mbs, despite what you paid.

I also have cat 5e. I wasn't sure what the benefit of cat 6 was when they are both capable of 1 gigabit speeds and the price with a lot of wire can add up.

this is now a internet speed survey thread.

$60/month, plans provided by other ISPs at the same price are ~20Mbps max.
>>
I used regular cat5

I also cut the end of the cat5 up into 4 cables for the LAN (4 cables is enough for 100mbps, only need 8 for gigabit), and 2 for the phone, so there's a phone connection in each room

Yeah. Bite me.
>>

too much cross-talk
shoulda used cat6a...

long as your running gigabit your fine. Straight gigabit from all your switches/routers in your network. if you have a segment that only supports fast ethernet, then that whole segment will be the bottleneck. ISPs don't offer any speeds at saturate a fast ethernet bus bus so your good on that end. Wireless is good for phones/netbooks/laptops. Wired connection is way better for streaming media devices.
>>
>>53595973
And wired connections are outlawed because those can be shielded from FreedomJusticeFlightEagle-drones' Liberty-checkups and only pedophiles and terrorists have something to hide.
>>
>>53598105

You'll need to wire the car with Single Mode, unless you only want to drive 500M.
