>untrustworthy
due to the nature of rpmbuilds for fedora it's very easy to determine whether someone tampered with the source code.
>>
>>53587490
The source code is untrustworthy because it's from no-namer devs

>Check the source yourself

No one has time for this

>The source code is untrustworthy because it's from no-namer devs
That's not an argument.

>>Check the source yourself
You don't have to, all you have to do is compare hashes of ~10 files

The only file modified was the spec file and that's only because without modyfying it rpmbuild wouldn't take the patch in consideration.
But that's only a few lines of plaintext script.
>>
>>53587571
I mean check the source for malicious code

KDE is pretty good at copying Windows.
>>

>Also that font rendering looks like shit
Welcome to Linux. Where the font rendering is fucking atrocious until you install Infinality.
>>
>>53587597
again - you don't have to.

fedora builds were rebuild from official packages (which on fedora are maintaned by redhat employee).

the source itself is unchanged and within src.rpm (which is used to build the actual binary .rpm) exists as a tarball right from whatever code management system software uses. It's easy to check whether it was changed, all you have to do is compare hashes.

later changes exists as patch files applied during the building process, so you can check them yourself.

I've tried installing the patches from the AUR on Antergos and got the error saying that glib2 package was in conflict and thag the patches couldn't be applied. How do I actually apply the patches? I guess I'd have to recompile glib or something, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Your File Manager and Distro? And Browser?

i use spacefm for my file manager, though that doesn't affect the file picker, which is a component of gtk+
arch (also no affect)
browser is icecat (this is relevant, however, as it's a gtk2 program)

Nigga, once you get Dolphin to open, you literally have the most bloated and the powerful file manager in existance. Windows' File Explorer is a literal babby compared to Dolphin. You can add tons of custom services and even embed a fucking terminal on it.
Don't even go there.

your file manager has no relevance at all, the file picker is a component of the widget toolkit (gtk+)

is this kde patched, or is this actually some gtk+ shit that icecat developers did?

i tried using kde filepicker but it's slow as fuck(i have all my pictures in one folder and there's 42000 of them there. literally takes 7 seconds to just open the picker window).

gtk+ picker would be perfect if little icons were just bigger.

perhaps just let it cache the thumbnails initially

>>
>>53598319
is that really the best that gtk has these days?

open source software is great for things that clearly need a bunch of functional little things completed. it's great for crowdsourcing shit.

open source is not any good for anything that involves high level planning or thinking.

ask any open source project going on longer than 5 years what the process is for usability testing and user research. i would be shocked if you got an answer that wasn't made up on the spot.

this sounds like wishy washy shit in the realm of artistic designy shit, but usability testing is about NASA Task Load Index surveys, GOMS, and studying what people do and importantly how long it takes to do those things.

and this is all literally *just* the evaluation side of things. once you figure out what a fucking disaster your interface is, then the open source project's developers will need to agree to broader design choices (again, design meaning "high level planning", not "make everything look shinier").

How fucking hard is this supposed to be to implement? Some random guy makes a fucking patch for an old version of GTK2+, yet the developers who are working on this all fucking day still can't get a normal file chooser working after 10+ years?

Absolutely ridiculous. The GTK team should be ashamed.
