So I just updated my Lumia 735 to Windows 10 mobile.
I didn't expect much of it since I heard there were plenty of bugs and it lagged on older phones (1gb - snapdragon 400) but so far it's actually quite good.
No lag, no bugs encountered so far, everything looks better and all my apps(all 5 of 'em) still work. Probably my first mobile update without any trouble whatsoever.
Has anyone else here installed Windows10 mobile?
And is there any future left for Windows 10 mobile? I heard most the staff for the mobile team has been fired, HERE maps (GOAT tier app, #1 reason I ever picked WP) will pull support from W10 and other shitty news like that.

I swapped out my m8 with android for a Lumia 950, so Windows 10 was my first foray into Windows mobile.
It came with a few headaches at first, but now it really runs great and smooth. Better battery life, I'm not much of an app guy but it does what I need. The OneDrive and office apps are fantastic and I use those daily. I may be getting the dock soon to try out the continuum features.
Also USB-C is the shit.

I got a 950 in November, switching from an iPhone 4S. I'm not sure if I want to stick with it.
Spotify sometimes crashes the phone, causing it to reboot. You have to open a new tab every time you open Edge instead of it just working when it opens. Cortana is an absolute idiot, when I ask her to set an alarm, she does a web search of 'set an alarm'. I was hanging on to the hope that Project Astoria would make it but of course they killed it, and even though MS bought Xamarin I highly doubt at this point that Android apps will make it to the platform. Although I agree with >>53580777 about Office, I had no idea how abysmal the state of the Windows Mobile store was. Holy shit. Continuum is cool though, I just feel that MS released an unfinished product with the 950/XL and Win10M. Will probably stick with it for another few months just to see if anything improves.

Errr I have bad news for you. I'm the OP and my first WP was that Huawei one a few years back. Then I had a Moto G for 2 years and just recently switched back to Lumia 735.
When I got the Lumia Windows Phone was in a worse state then when I left it. The OS Itself hasn't changed a bit but about half the worthwhile apps were pulled off.

Just give it a couple of weeks and it'll slow down. Not nearly as bad as older releases, but yea pretty slow, compared to 8.1

I think that either developers will bring Android apps to Win10M or MS is going to drop it and let it die, and one of these will probably happen within the coming months. I don't think that developers are attracted at all to Universal Apps, and plus they have to pay big to use Xamarin's porting services. I bought into it because my friend is a huge MS fan and is talked me into it.

That said, my brother recently bought a S5 and I had to use it to make a few picture and it shocked me how laggy it was for a €600 flagship phone that is many times more powerful than my Lumia.

The only two OSes worthy of your time are iOS and WP. Android is a piece of shit and for pajeets and huehuehues (unlike what /g/ wants you to believe, just go to the Play Store and try not to cringe with the reviews).
iOS if you need apps, WP if you're not a normie and you like a smooth OS.

Was awaiting the update. Was gonna run with 920 for another year while testing win10.
Now that I know the 920 won't be getting the update and that a lot of apps are being pulled, I may have to hop to android.
Really sad considering WinPhones are the best practical mobile choice if you overlook the poor app support.

Probably not. I'm not a fanboy so I can see the writing on the wall. MS is probably going to drop it like they have 1000 other underperforming products in the past. It's a shame, because it does have potential.

I actually just reinstalled WP10 on my Nokia 1520. All instability went away. Its just like windows on my PC, it's all glitchey after an OS upgrade until you get sick of it and format and reinstall, then it's all good.

A month or so? Carriers still test the update with their firmware before releasing to the locked phones.
It might not take longer next time since W10M has separated the network from the OS.

Download "Upgrade Advisor" from the store, you don't need the "Windows Insider' program, nor do you need the go-ahead from AT&T.
Just upgraded my 640xl, and aside from losing the Glance Screen, it's not bad at all. The store seems to have way more apps now, not sure what they did to do that.
Pretty trippy though, it sounds like AT&T is updating our shitty 640s but ignoring some high-end phones? I literally got this thing for free, I never would have figured MS would put any effort into improving it. The thing doesn't even have a gyroscope, lmao

You cant put into words how far behind WP is from the competition. Even Microshaft already admitted that the only reason to use WP is if your a Windows fanboy. I switched from my 720 to an iPhone some time ago and there isn't one thing that I can say Microsoft did better.

I still have the settings under extras->glance, but it won't open the setting, or it opens for 1-2 seconds then crashes. If I get it open for long enough to change a setting, the second I change a setting it crashes. From what I've read, it's a common problem on the 640xl right now. I'll see if there's any news on a fix, though.

Are you able to sync your Microsoft account with the phone? Those were the two bugs I've had since upgrade - Glance screen won't work, and I've been unable to sync with my MS contacts/accounts, but my google account syncs fine.
Aside from those two issues, i'm not really sure what people are saying is dead about the platform. I don't follow the Windows 10 mobile news, so it might be something in that arena, but from what I can tell, the phone has a bunch of new apps since upgrading to w10. I'll have to see if my battery life is still as good as it's always been, but it doesn't seem bad so far
The only thing that can save Windows Phone is by retracting from the mainstream market and focusing on enterprise businesses. Release a Surface Phone that's top tier quality for the business folks, and then once that gains popularity push towards mainstream consumers.
Trying to lure in the Android and Apple crowd just isn't going to work at this current time.
