Rethinking the monitor, maybe will decide for higher resolution IPS Freesync one in similiar price range. Is 144Hz a meme?

I just built a budget PC (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Whywf7).
I popped the ram sticks into the grey slots because they're numbered as 1 and 2 on the board, and also to marginally improve airflow. People seem to recommend putting them as close to the CPU as possible though. Is it because there is a shorter distance between them and CPU or something?
>>

>>>/wsr/
Read the sticky.
>>
>>53575469
It's because they're retarded. It isn't such an outstanding distance further.

The grey ones in your pic are always numbered 1 and 2, and if you only have 2 sticks, those are the ones your sticks should occupy, as they're the primary slots

Is there a decent AMD CPU for emulating. Current build is a FX4300+Asus 7770 and I notice that it tends to stutter a bit with Dolphin/PS2 emulating.

I've been wondering if any of the newer AMD chips would be a good idea for a new build. (Specifically the AMD A10-7890K paired with a R7 series GPU)
>>
>>53577838
Wait for Zen.

>Specifically the AMD A10-7890K paired with a R7 series GPU
Why would you buy the A10-7890K instead of the Athlon X4 880K if you plan on using a discrete GPU? Also it would be barely faster than the FX4300. Better OC your current CPU as far as you can.

>All that wasted money on the optical drive and wireless card.

I can almost guarantee you wan't utilize that wireless card to even half it's potential, any wireless card in the $30-$50 is more more than enough. Optical drives are basically artifacts at this point. With all the money wasted on this build you should have at least an R9 390 or GTX 970.
>>
>>53578478
Running a wire in my place isn't an option unfortunately, and it was between that or a $30 one with dubious reviews. Why's the 960 a problem?
>>
>>53578572
For $1000 you could get a 980 or 390x. You are overpaying in a few areas.
>>
>>53578568
I will agree that the wireless adapter is a bit too much, but hey some of us still watch dvds
>>
>>53578568
Any recommendations as to a good one? My only tech friend just told me to make sure it's got ac in the kind it is, whatever that means. And I don't want to spend the extra 100-150 on a card for only marginally better performance.

I probably should have said this is basically going to be a Skyrim, 4chan, Netflix and porn machine.
>>
>>53578592
Do you watch blu rays though? Why the fuck are you buying a $50 optical drive

Does anyone know of a Card Reader that fits into a Slimline Sata bay?

I'm currently building a HTPC and the case I'm looking at (Raven RVZ02) has a vertical slimline bay. I feel I could put this to some use instead of using my external card reader.

I have been searching for hours for one, but it seems like they don't exist. What is the technical name for that slot?
>>
>>53578658
OP here. Eh, I have a bunch of money to throw around and I wanna be able to boot from disc if necessary. I just don't think an extra 100-150 on a GPU is worth it.

Personally, I think you're wasting money on such a dope build and than a 960, you're basically throwing money at shiny new stuff you're never going to fully utilize, what are you going to be doing on your PC?

Is there a single graphics card handle games at 1440p resolution with no problems? (980ti perhaps?)

Im trying to decide if I want to get a 1440p screen, but I cant figure out if it would be overkill for the current cards on the market. I dont want to invest in a 1440p screen if it is only going to cause more problems than it will solve. Also, I am not interested in purchasing two cards.

I built the setup on the left four or five years ago and it's been really great, couldn't be happier with it.

However, the USB ports on the motherboard are dying and I'm playing CPU heavy games so I want to squeeze more out of the CPU through overclocking. I don't want to replace the entire CPU yet because there's nothing really worth upgrading to, and so I won't replace the motherboard because it's a waste to buy a new board with an old socket. However, I'm planning for future overclocking on a very powerful processor, when one comes along.

On the right are my planned upgrades. New case because my current one (HAF912) apparently won't fit the radiator without me taking an angle-grinder to it. A fuckoff-huge cooling system for absolute futureproofing. And replacing my RAM with a 16GB setup so that I can run Cities: Skylines with 3000 extra assets installed.

But I'm open to suggestions on that front.

The grafics card is getting kinda old but it still handles most things on good grafics so I don't mind that. It's when I'm playing games like EU4 or Vicky 2 with heavy modding where I feel slowdowns because of CPU, not grafics. The only thing I'm thinking is that I may at one point want to liquid cool a graphics card, which the H110GT does not allow (no modularity, I would need to buy another system). But that's a distant possibility. Graphics don't concern me much and I'd probably never bother overclocking a card instead of just upgrading it.

Basically the advice I'm after is just to have you guys look over this stuff and let me know if there are better value options available.

If you're going to spend over 200 on a CPU, why not get an i5? Unless of course you're using a program that loves four module FX CPUs. The 8370 is clocked pretty low, and the turbo doesn't work like you probably think it does.

Get the 390, and yes 144hz is a meem

>>53577838
Dolphin under DX12 works ok with FX CPUs. In general it's a CPU heavy task though, so if you want to stick with AMD, I'd wait for later offerings. Unfortunately, whether you choose Intel or AMD Zen, you'll have to get a new mobo for the socket.

What is a good cpu and motherboard combo that works with an r9 270x and kingston hyper fury ddr3 ram that will fit inside an antec two hundred s case?
>>
>>53580077

That's pretty gimped by low RAM speed and slow CPU.

See this for example:
https://youtu.be/frNjT5R5XI4?t=464

If you are going AMD GPU you need really heavily overclocked Haswell or Skylake to deal with the driver bottleneck.

Most reviews give too rosy picture of AMD performance because they use latest high end CPUs, sometimes overclocked, which eliminates the effect of AMD driver bottleneck and then retards on /g/ buy AMD GPU and pair it with a slow CPU.

I questioned whether to get a 144hz for the longest time, and decided against it. My reason being that I dont play any competitive games. I mostly play platformers and adventure games. The only FPS games I have are half life and tf2 and the only racing game I have on steam is Sonic Allstar Transformed.

144hz totally depends on what kind of games you play in my opinion.

That's for laptop disc drives? You can call it a 12.7mm drive bay.

There are plenty of adapters that lets you put a 2.5" drive into a 12.7mm drive bay. Then I found this thing, which lets you put 4 SD cards into a 2.5" drive bay. So, you could technically do it this way... except you wouldn't be able to insert or remove media cards without dismantling your system.

There are lots of of PCI slot card readers, but I suppose you'll be using that for your graphics card.

That's the downside of SFF cases. They're small and look nice, but you necessarily lose capabilities as a trade off.

>>53578708
no, card readers require USB nearly all of the time and your disk will 99% of the time use SATA. In VERY rare instances you might have one or two options available: older laptops use IDE, you might be able to hack a CompactFlash port and I think some Thinkpads use USB data.

But to answer your question you can't really convert a SATA port to USB, so unfortunately no buddy.
>>
>>53583006
You're missing an HDD so i assume you already have one. there aren't any specific problems that make your system incompatble but here's spome things to note:

- try to go for 2x4GB instead of 1x8GB, it's generally preferrable to get dual channel memory. it's like six bucks more for two sticks via microcenter.
- you're using a micro atx board in a mid tower ATX case; not a huge issue but you're gonna be more limited on expansion and your tower will be bigger than your board is. Either get a mATX chassis if you like your board in particular or an ATX board if you like your case in particular.
>>
>>53582161
like what >>53584425 said, that chip is overclockable but that board isn't. either drop the K edition or get a Z170 board. also your board is mATX, read hwat i just posted.

>>53580520
