It's called GNU/Linux.
Linux is just the kernel, Windows kernel is NT, you don't call Windows NT, right?

Windows is the brand, the identifier for the OS operating as a whole.
'Linux' is valid from a 'brand' perspective.

When you have older hardware which does not have driver support passed windows 7, so you installed 7, and then had Windows decide it was going to force the "upgrade" to 10 on you while you were asleep with no user interaction. No EULA. Just go to sleep with 7, wake up with 10.

The Pajeets will say
>But anon, if you wanted to stick with windows 7 you had 30 days to revert back to windows 7

Yeah well I fucking did that only to have my C drive corrupt while 10 removed it's NSA backdoored bitlocker encryption.

You want to know why I use Linux instead of Windows? Because Microsoft has fucked me.

I use ubuntu because I need to, I'm on crouton and it's the only thing available aside from chromeos. I'm no noob but honestly if you have a windows computer, just use windows. Or dual boot to try things out. NEVER completely delete windows. Not if you ever want to do anything again. Linux OS's are wonderful, but they simply have less support.

Yeah, but it runs like shit. Everything is an ordeal in Linux.

Just today I added fonts to Windows 10 and it was easy as fuck. Tried doing the the same on Ubuntu and I couldn't get it to work. I didn't know how to do either before today and I followed the instructions to the t.

Linux sucks ass as a desktop.

No, Linux actually does suck ass any time you have to drop to the command line or a config file to get something done. It's much better today then, say, 10 years ago. But the autism is strong in the Linux community and they don't get that normies never want to resort that shit, and even most geeks only want to occasionally.

If you can't handle the shittier parts of Linux, use OS X.

Setup your desktop however you like with a large variety of flavors and customisation's.

It's free, if I'm building a pc, for the same price as Microsoft windows I can get a 480GB ssd instead. Most distros are perfectly fine for day to day use.

Nigga literally confirms that you can turn the shit off upon your initial installation. Freetards - 0; Windows - 1.
>>
>>53571227
Holy shit!

>>

you don't have to switch off any botnet on linux. Loonix - 9; Winfags - -1
>>
>>53577385
>>53577459

Additionally, something to add to that list, I find the Linux file system to be far more understandable and intuitive than Windows. Everything has its own special corner: configuration files have their own directory, documentation has another directory, binaries (programs) have their own directory, and system and user binaries are properly separated, devices have their own directory, root has its own directory, local users have their own directory, etc. I've only been using Linux consistently for a little over a year, but I find the file system to be far more understandable than Window's, which I've been using for over 15 years.

>>53577519
Nobody on /g/ has been able to replicate it because the botnet meme is nothing more than a meme. The video showed an Insider Preview version of Windows 10, in which the EULA explicitly states that Microsoft is going to take screenshots and shit like that for the purpose of compatibility testing and optimization.

native iso mounting since windows 7
9 and 10 are bullshit anyway
what the fuck does the pic try to tell me with 19? go to hell
20 is outdated
22 is only because no one uses linux, and in the CURRENT YEAR you freetards should know that already
24 only some software, not all, idiots
25 and if you don't switch to the unstable-bleeding-edge-testing repository you get year old software versions

Honestly 2 reasons for me.

1: Productivity. It's just convenient to have GCC work nicely with everything, and to have a Linux base for administrating other systems. Even though I work on the other systems remotely, it's nice to have the environment I expect on my local system as well so that I can SCP either way and run local development tools with ease (I can't stand WAMP on Windows, and I use a lot of shell utilities like cat, cut, grep, etc. all the time).

2: I wanted to stop playing as many games.

3: I wanted to use better software RAID for file storage and redundancy.

4: I like that I can put my / on the SSD and my /home on the spinner. Though I specifically do it a tad differently, it's super easy to integrate a separate volume at certain mountpoints.
>>
>>53577412
>well, if you do it correctly, there is no traffic with microsoft servers left

Actually, there is. And a lot of it is secured traffic so you have no idea what's actually being sent.
>>
>>53571166
My reason:

I felt like Microsoft had a finger inside my arsehole 24/7 with those servers connected to my OS all the time. So I change to Debian and got rid of this finger.

Feels good. I'm not a gamer and still can run VMs if I need something from another OS.
