How is the XPS 15 4k's Linux support? I'm thinking of getting one this summer and I want to make sure I'm not cucking myself.
>>
>>53551976
Doesn't the XPS series have the Ubuntu option? If so, it's pretty safe to assume that it works.
>>
Why is there not a global wordfilter on 'cuck'

'meme' is long overdue as well
>>
>>53551976
The original release did not support Linux installs so do research
>>
>>53551996
Only the XPS 13 does I believe, its called the "Developer edition".
>>
they had problems with the sound and the trackpad in the beginning but its fixed.

golem.de tested it and rated it top with linux.

damm i wish i had some moneyes....
>>
Good luck with dpi scaling

>inb4 it works just fine. except that program. and this icon. or that font. but it does mostly I promise!!

hidpi xps 13 here.

It's better than it is on windows at least

but in all honesty it doesn't hold a candle to mac OSX.
>>
>>53552112
>not just turning it off in settings.
>>
>>53551976
I think that is what the precision 5510 is for, basically an XPS 15 but business
>>
>>53552112
>>53552838
Why do they make these panels touchscreen in the first place who in their right mind would want that.
>>
>>53552007
It used to filter it to kek but hiroshimoot changed it, baka

What kind of retard buys a 15" 4k display?
>>

near 300ppi is completely unusable for productivity
>>
>>53556583
wow anon
>>
>>53556583
Unless you have scaling
>>
>>53556609
and then you waste pixels making your font sharper
>>
>>53556616
It's not unusable, just pointless.
It looks nice. Nice monitors are nice.

It's a waste of battery life and money

not for a photographer

you can look at large photos in their raw state without compressing them
>>
>>53556657
I like used thinkpads as much as the next guy, but nice laptops are nice. It won't all always be for productivity's sake.
>>
>>53556657
Its "retina" as apple calls it. And makes it look extremely nice. DPI scaling on Linux has never been better and I want my shit to look nice. As well as it being compatible with 1080p and 720p content because its 4k.
>>
>>53556721
OP here, I actually have a thinkpad right now, and I love it for the price and Linux compatiblity and nice keyboard. But now that I have the money I'd like a laptop that can look extremely nice, run extremely fast, and be able to play light games like CS:GO or KSP.
>>
>>53556752
Well that's this, but apparently the LB is crap. Thinkpad Retro when
>>
>>53556790
*KB
>>
>>53556790
I can live with a semi decent keyboard. I use my desktop for typing anyways.
>>
>>53556822
Well us clitmouse addicts are boned. I'm considering just getting an external battery
>>
XPS 13 ain't bad. It's not a thinkpad, but if you use GNOME the touch is pretty cool. It has its use cases. If you have the money, filing bug reports on GNOME touch is a generous contribution to the community.
>>
XPS 13 linux user here.
Use Fedora. You won't run into many small problems like other distros when it comes to hidpi (Ubuntu 16.04 promises to fix some of Unity's problems with hidpi, but it is suffering from a regression right now). Also, before I forget: http://forthescience.org/blog/tag/xps13.html
This link will help you get sound working if you use a more recent kernel (4.4.x).

Local CL ad for xps 13 thinking about checking it out. i5/128ssd/4ram/1080p for $500
Pic related. Thoughts?
I would mainly be using it while at school over the next year

Enjoy being poor
Enjoy your 1366x768
>>
>>53557744
You're better off getting one off the Dell outlet with a coupon code.
>>
>>53558918
1080p is already around 150 ppi on a 15" display that's more than enough for sharpness
>>
>>53558935
idk even with 30% off the cheapest option they have i'd still be spending ~$700 but it could be worth it for the upgrade to 256ssd/8gb ram. or i could just wait until they add cheaper options i guess
>>
>>53551976

Search for "Dell Sputnik". It has everything you need. It seems that the Precision 5510 is better supported under Linux. I think the Precision line uses Intel WiFi cards whereas the XPS line uses Dell's WiFi cards.
>>
>>53554976
I find it quite pointless too. I really hate smudges on my screen so why would I want to touch it when I have a working keyboard and touch-pad/mouse/trackball?
