>interviewing programmers
>take a look at their resume
>they only have a CS degree

Why do these people waste my time?
>>
>>53550648
Why the fuck are you wasting your own time bringing people in to interview when you would automatically reject them anyway?
>>
>>53550648
Nice strawman.
>>
>>53550679
OP is a troll with nothing better to do with his time.

Please do not feed the trolls.

Don't forget to sage on your way out!

HR does the screening.
>>
>>53550648
You seem to do a real great job.
>>
>>53550693
Why don't you tell HR to reject CS degrees?

You're not kidding anyone

Good universities force students to have an internship to graduate.
>>
>>53551119
Aren't all universities force to have an internship before graduating?
>>
>>53551189
yeah but you do it on your own.
>>
HEY DAWG I HAVE A PHD IN CHANOLOGY
HIRE ME BRAH!!!
>>
>>53550648

Call them in and laugh as they fail fizzbuzz. Bring popcorn, you can throw it at them when it's time to get them to leave.
>>
>>53551119
>>53551189

Why would an university require an internship? How is that related to an education?
>>
>>53553742
Because when you say that you have a degree from x university it means that you have actual job experience.
>>

You're worse than OP.

We happily hire new and fresh cs students. The only demand we have from them is that they put all their time and effort to learn from us and improve. So we give most a shot. I guess now I understand how US and other countries are failing and getting higher unemployed people.
>>
>>53550731
>make a github account

There, experience.
>>
>>53554047
Not the same, I actually have one and put up some uni stuff, home projects with pic and etc. Most companies don't seem to care too much about it, they always wonder why I haven't worked closer with companies or people(clients) and such. However not giving up on getting a job!

What about a computer science degree AND a minor in math?
>>
Then what do you look for as far as education goes? Or are you saying the applicants should have experience?
>>
>>53554105
>AND a minor in math

Burned way too many times. It's safe to assume they always took the push over classes and learned nothing.
>>
>>53554105
>computer "science"
>math
It's like you were trying to see which one is more useless than the other.
>>
>>53554135

Pretty much anything that isn't CS, SE, IT, IS, Women's Studies, Gender Studies, Sexuality Studies, African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Athletic and Fitness Science, Communications, or Secular Studies.
>>
>>53554135
He is basically trolling and nothing else.
>>
>>53552429
Do people actually fail this? I'm a CS student with an interview for an internship soon and this seems trivial, why is this hard?
>>
>>53554376
It's not hard, fizzbuzz is just there to weed out people who can't program at all.
However it's completely useless now, since it became so well known and applicants can just learn the solution by heart.

There is so many other questions and puzzles you can present.

University is not for getting a job.
>>
>>53554560
Of course.
Fizzbuzz just became the best known because it was featured on codinghorror.
>>
>>53554579
Yeah, because code bootcamps are totally going to teach people how to program.
>>
>>53550648

trashed

Don't delude yourself.
Modern universities have nothing to do with old ideals like Humboldt's.
>>
>>53550648
>Companies visit my linked in page daily.
>It lists all my projects from those implented for fun at home to those I did for a job
>Real complete resume
>The page still says i'm a student and will be so for the next 6 years

And yet people keep trowing me offers for scholarships and pre paid work contracts (ie: they soak up all my university tuitions and day to day costs and force me to get a +10 year contract)

I just wish they diden't offer me 10 year contracts I don't like being iddle that long.

I'm crying for real right now. I can see so many of my peers having a hard time with it. Thanks community college.

This made me feel way better about how my phone interview went and the one I have coming up.
>>
>>53554609
CS degress don't teach you how to code. You teach yourself to code. CS Degree != Software Engineer Job. That was never the intent and it never will be. Many use degrees for that purpose but schools don't.
>>
>>53554659
>You teach yourself to code
Yeah because trying to maintain a gigantic fucking clusterfuck one method program that some self-taught faggot hacked together is great.
>>
>>53554609
There's a magical invention called a book. If you read it, I hear that you can even learn from it. Wild ain't it?
>>
>>53554687
Not sure why you're being defensive. I'm in my final semester of my CS degree. There are kids who are great at writing software and kids that are terrible. The kids that tried and/or did side projects write clean and efficient code. Kids who copied code from others write shit code and I'm surprised they are graduating at all.
>>
>>53554659
CS degrees don't teach you about theory either since students whined for "muh specialization"
>>
>>53554745
I wholeheartedly disagree, at least from my experience.
>>
It amazes me people care what other people shit post here, just make yourself available and improve yourself as much as possible. Eventually you will land on a good job or something. Doing nothing but whine won't get you anywhere. Good luck!
>>
>>53554793
If most of humanity realized this we'd be in a much better boat, but welcome to $currentYear.
>>
>>53554830
Can you format that properly, thanks.
>>
>>53554707
>There's a magical invention called a book. If you read it, I hear that you can even learn from it
>y-yeah, I read this book...
Have fun getting past HR with A FUCKING BOOK listed for your education.
>>
This all gives me great hope that learning to code while at work for a possible career change in a year or 2 will be worth it.

If I don't have any coding work experience but have been in management for over 6 years is there hope out there? I already swallowed html and css, just finishing up with javascript. Have minimal experience from back in school with java, basic, vb, and turing.
>>
>>53554076
Hope it works out for you, man. Best of luck.

The best way to get hired is lie, lie, and lie some more.

OFC don't literally tell them shit they can verify and use against them, but exaggerate everything. Only started programming in college? No, you've been programming since you were 12 and taught yourself. Have no experience with a required language? No, you worked with a bit a while ago but may be a bit rusty. Not very good with git? No, you're experienced with git and source control all of your personal projects.

Make sure if you do this though, you're willing to retroactively correct your lies. If you say you know how to do something, you better know how to do it within a week of starting.
